These two models aim to compete with Toyota’s and Maruti’s CNG offerings — the Dzire and Grand Vitara — to attract value-conscious buyers.

Honda has introduced CNG retrofitment kits for its popular models – the Honda Elevate SUV and 3rd Gen Amaze sedan. These kits are Government Approved and installed at the dealer level, making CNG now available for Honda buyers looking for better fuel economy and lower running costs.

Only Petrol Variants, Now with CNG Compatibility

Both the Elevate and Amaze are currently sold with only petrol engine options and lack factory-fitted CNG variants. To offer a fuel-efficient alternative, especially as diesel engines are being phased out in India, Honda is now offering retrofitted CNG kits through select authorised dealerships.

OEMs like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors offer factory-installed CNG setups. However, Honda has chosen a more cost-effective approach by allowing certified third-party retrofit CNG installation at dealership level—similar to what Renault currently does, and what Nissan is also planning to implement.

How the CNG Retrofitment Works

Customers interested in the CNG version of Honda Elevate or Amaze will need to visit authorised dealerships directly, as online booking for these CNG kits is not available. Installation will be carried out by trained service personnel. While the process is safe and certified, it may not be as seamless as factory-fitted options.

The CNG tank will be installed in the boot area, which will affect boot space. The cabin layout remains unchanged, apart from an additional fuel selector switch to toggle between petrol and CNG.

Important Points to Note

  • These kits are currently not listed on Honda’s official website, and pricing details have not been disclosed.

  • The kits are only available for the new Elevate and Amaze, not the Honda City sedan.

  • It is unclear if existing owners can retrofit these kits or if it is restricted to new purchases only.

  • The registration process is longer, requiring the car to first be registered as a petrol vehicle, followed by an update as a Petrol+CNG vehicle.

  • Fuel efficiency figures for the retrofitted CNG models are yet to be revealed.

Final Thoughts

With rising fuel prices and diesel models declining, Honda’s decision to offer CNG retrofitting for the Elevate and Amaze brings a more economical and eco-friendly alternative to customers. While not as seamless as factory CNG options, these dealer-installed, government-approved kits still offer a practical solution for daily commuters and city users.
