Mahindra has many new cars lined-up for launch in 2024, but the most important seems to be the Thar 5-Door as Mahindra seems to be at a stage of finalizing the name of the SUV with 7 possibilities. One of them trademarked is the Armada and we would love if Mahindra uses this name for the Thar 5-Door.
Mahindra Trademarks 7 New Names for Thar 5-Door: What does this mean?
Mahindra has trademarked 7 new names for the Thar 5-Door – Cult, Rex, Centurion, Gladius, Armada, Roxx, and Savannah. Out of the 7 names, ‘Armada’ is the one that catches out attention as back in 1993, the Armada SUV was available as a 4-Door SUV capable of doing off-roading with 2WD and 4WD Drivetype option. The design was inspired from the Jeep SUVs, had Bolero-style roofline, and was powered by the 2.1 L and 2.5 L Diesel Engines. The SUV was a flagship model for Mahindra and was in production till 2001 before getting replaced by the Bolero.
But however, Mahindra may opt for a unique name to create the SUV’s unique identity to not only differentiate from the 3-Door Thar, but also it’ll be something different in their portfolio. While Armada certainly fits with the Thar 5-Door bringing a nostalgic value, and feels, however, these trademarks doesn’t necessarily mean Mahindra will use them to brand the Thar.
So, what does this mean then? Either Mahindra could pick one out of the other 6 names, or we’ll have to wait and see what happens. The test mules of the SUV has been spotted a gazillion times now which indicates design changes over the 3-Door version. Moreover, it’ll get new features like 10.25-inch infotainment system, Scorpio-N like Semi-Digital Instrument Cluster, Sunroof, and more.
As for the Engine Options, it’s highly likely it’ll retain the 2.0 L Turbo Petrol and the 2.2 L Diesel Engine with 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox Options. Mahindra is expected to price the Thar 5-Door from Rs. 15 – Rs. 20 Lakhs.
