From the teaser, it’s apparent that the dash layout remains largely unchanged from the previous model, with the addition of a storage compartment above the new infotainment system, which appears to be bigger than the one seen on the 3-door version. Confirmed by spy shots, the Gurkha 5-door variant will feature a seven-seater configuration, as revealed by the teaser from the company. This layout includes a middle row bench and two captain’s chairs in the rear. Familiar elements such as the steering wheel and seats carry over from the predecessor.
The teaser confirms the inclusion of a shift-on-the-fly 4WD system, replacing the previous manual lever setup. Positioned opposite the front power window controls, both features flank the 5-speed manual gear lever. The differential lock handles remain slightly ahead of the gear lever as before.
The new Gurkha’s digital instrument cluster are an array of additional features and safety enhancements. Notably, a tyre pressure monitoring system is seen which displays pressure readings for all tyres, including the spare mounted on the tailgate — a feature reminiscent of those found in premium vehicles like the Land Rover Defender. Moreover, the SUV will also get Traction Control and Hill Assist.
The new Gurkha will be powered by a Mercedes-sourced 2.6 L Diesel Engine, delivering higher power output compared to the discontinued 3-door version. Additionally, the engine will feature an Auto Start-Stop System to enhance fuel efficiency and will be equipped with Adblue technology to meet BS6 Phase II Norms.
Upon its release, the Gurkha will initially compete directly with the Maruti Jimny. However, a direct competitor, the Mahindra Thar 5-door variant, is set to launch on August 15th, signaling a robust competition in the segment.
