Royal Enfield has officially unveiled the Bear 650, a scrambler version of the Interceptor 650. This new model introduces upgraded equipment compared to the Interceptor and comes with a lighter build.
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is essentially a scrambler adaptation of the Interceptor 650, designed with light off-road capability. It features increased ground clearance, extended suspension travel, and rugged dual-purpose tires. This new model’s name draws inspiration from Eddie Mulder’s iconic 1960 victory at the Big Bear Run.

Design
With a striking design, the Bear 650 comes in five distinct colors, with the Yellow variant featuring a signature ‘6 1/2’ marking on the tank, representing its 650cc engine capacity. Differentiating itself from the Interceptor, the Bear 650 has a more aspirational look, a bold paint scheme, a reworked exhaust system, and robust, scrambler-style tires. It’s completed with a single-piece elevated seat and a side-panel number board, giving it a cool, rugged aesthetic.
The bike also includes:
- All-LED lighting for enhanced visibility
- New 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, differing from the Interceptor’s 18-inch front and rear setup
- Exclusive MRF Nylorex-X block-pattern tires, developed specifically for this model
- A digital TFT display, borrowed from the Himalayan, with smartphone connectivity, music control, replacing the Interceptor’s twin-pod analogue cluster

The Bear 650 uses an enhanced version of the Interceptor’s platform, featuring a redesigned rear frame and upgraded suspension components. It includes a Showa USD fork from the Shotgun model with refreshed internals and a set of dual rear shocks, delivering substantially improved travel—130mm at the front and 115mm at the rear, compared to the Interceptor’s 110mm front and 88mm rear. The Bear 650 also boasts an elevated ground clearance of 184mm.
The seat height is set at 830mm, making the Bear 650 the tallest bike in Royal Enfield’s 650cc range. Braking is handled by a 320mm disc at the front and a 270mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS that allows riders to switch off the rear ABS when required. The scrambler stance is accentuated by a wider handlebar and repositioned foot pegs, ensuring a comfortable yet commanding riding posture.

The Bear 650 retains the Interceptor’s 648cc parallel-twin engine but opts for a two-into-one exhaust setup, resulting in a single raspy exhaust note. The engine is tuned for more torque, producing 56.5 Nm, while peak power remains consistent at 47 bhp. The bike’s overall weight has also been reduced by 3 kg compared to the Interceptor, bringing it down to 216 kg. This weight reduction, thanks to the reworked chassis, wheels, and suspension, is a notable advantage for off-road performance.
Royal Enfield has also planned an extensive lineup of accessories and customization options for the Bear 650, set to be showcased at EICMA. The official market launch is anticipated on November 5th, when riders can expect to see this scrambler hitting showrooms.
