This new Creta rival SUV will bring in first-in class features that it may end becoming the most popular SUV again
The iconic Renault Duster is set to make a grand comeback in 2025, with its right-hand-drive (RHD) version recently unveiled in South Africa. This model is expected to be the same as the one launching in India, with a debut anticipated around March 2025. With its robust design, advanced features, and improved platform, the 2025 Renault Duster aims to reclaim its position in the competitive compact SUV segment.
Enhanced Platform and Dimensions
The 2025 Duster is built on Renault’s CMF-B platform, known for improving passenger space and luggage capacity. For India, this platform is expected to be heavily localized to keep costs competitive. The SUV measures 4,343 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width, and 1,661 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,657 mm. The ground clearance stands at an impressive 217 mm, ensuring capability on rough terrains.
Striking Design and Interior Features
The new Renault Duster flaunts a bold and commanding design, featuring Y-shaped LED DRLs, a redesigned grille, and a bull-bar-like front element with circular fog lights. At the rear, Y-shaped taillights and a revised bumper add to its appeal.
Inside, the SUV offers a rugged yet functional cabin. Key features include:
- A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- A 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Automatic climate control and rear AC vents.
- 18-inch alloy wheels and all-4 disc brakes.
- Advanced connectivity with real-time traffic navigation.
The SUV also boasts practical elements like a 472-liter boot space and a wireless smartphone charger, catering to modern buyer preferences.
Expected Engine Options for India
Globally, the 2025 Duster is offered with three engine options:
- 1.6-Litre Petrol Hybrid: Combines two electric motors with a petrol engine to deliver 140 bhp and 148 Nm torque. This version features a 1.2 kWh battery with regenerative braking, achieving an efficiency of 24.5 kmpl.
- 1.2-Litre Petrol with 48V Hybrid Support: A three-cylinder engine running on the Miller cycle. This hybrid powertrain enhances performance and fuel efficiency while offering a 6-speed gearbox in both 4×2 and 4×4 versions.
- LPG-Petrol Dual Fuel: Equipped with separate 50-liter tanks for petrol and LPG, this version allows drivers to switch between fuels at the push of a button.
For India, Renault is likely to offer the 1.2-liter petrol hybrid with 4WD capabilities, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly and high-performance SUVs.
Re-establishing Renault’s Compact SUV Legacy
The Renault Duster was instrumental in popularizing compact SUVs in India and remains a favorite for its rugged build and off-road capabilities. Its sophisticated independent rear suspension and monocoque construction appealed to enthusiasts. With the 2025 model, Renault plans to rekindle this legacy, challenging segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate.
The launch of the 2025 Renault Duster could mark a significant milestone for Renault India, enabling the brand to regain its foothold in the highly competitive compact SUV market.
