The Triber is currently the most affordable 7-seater car in the Indian market; The compact MPV has been a consistent seller for Renault.

Renault launched the Triber back in 2019 as the most affordable 7-seater car in the Indian market. Over the years, the compact MPV has emerged as a competent product, particularly for budget-conscious family-oriented customers. While the Triber is not a very popular name in the market, it has been a consistent seller for the Frech carmaker.

Why The Triber Continued To Perform Well In The Indian Market?

Renault Triber

The sales of the Triber never went through the roof, however, considering the overall market positioning of Renault in India, it can attributed as mildly successful.

The Renault Triber offers a unique combination of affordability, practicality and cabin space, aligning with the requirements of family-oriented customers. The affordable price tag of Rs. 5.75 lakh to Rs. 8.60 lakh (ex-showroom), undercuts other MPVs in the market by a huge margin. It offers a full 7-seater layout for the cost of a hatchback like Maruti Suzuki Swift.

Despite having an extremely competitive price bracket, the Triber doesn’t compromise on the feature front, offering goodies like a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, cruise control, front parking sensors, cooled glove box, auto wipers and auto headlights. The quality of interiors is also quite competent considering the price, however, use of premium material in some areas could enhance the overall feel of the cabin.

In terms of safety features, it comes with 6-airbags standard, TPMS, ESP, Hill-Start Assist, Traction control, rear parking sensors as standard.

Measuring just under 4 metres long, the Triber offers ample space for all 3 rows, making it ideal for families. The second row is quite flexible, offering sliding as well as reclining functions. The flexible seating further allows to convert it from a 7-seater to 5-seater, by removing the third row, increasing the boot space to 625 litres.

Lastly, it is quite fuel efficient with a claimed mileage of around 17-20 kmpl, along with being low on maintenance. The tried and tested 1.0-litre is available with a 5-speed manual and  an AMT gearbox option, making the Triber usable for both city commuters and highway travellers. Besides this, Renault should also consider offering the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, paired to the CVT automatic gearbox, which will make the MPV more suitable for long distance highway trips.

Final Thoughts

The Triber currently has a very unique positioning in the market, offering a practical 7-seater car at an affordable price tag. However, it will soon be challenged by the upcoming Nissan compact MPV and Maruti Suzuki YDB sub-4-meter MPV, using the Series Hybrid powertrain. While the recent facelift has given a fresh appeal to the Triber, both in terms of design and equipment, a potent powertrain as well as more features could further expand its customer reach.
