Tata Harrier.ev set to get affordable All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) variant as there’s quite a high demand for it!

Tata Motors is gearing up to make the Harrier EV’s AWD tech—branded as Quad Wheel Drive (QWD)—far more accessible by introducing it on lower, more affordable variants. This move comes after the brand witnessed a stronger-than-expected demand for the AWD version, which currently sits only on the top-spec Empowered trim.

QWD Demand Pushes Tata To Expand AWD Options

The Harrier EV has quickly become one of Tata’s strongest EV performers since its introduction. A major attraction has been its segment-first QWD system, priced currently from Rs 28.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Empowered 75 QWD variant. Even with its premium pricing, demand has surged, with AWD versions contributing nearly one-third of total sales.

Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer at Tata Motors, confirmed the development, stating, “We have seen more than anticipated demand for the QWD variant. Thirty percent of our sales are coming from the QWD variant, so we will offer it on lower variants, too.” At launch, Tata Motors had predicted only around 20% contribution from AWD variants—making the current 30% share a pleasantly surprising result.

To widen its appeal, Tata is expected to introduce the QWD setup on the mid-spec Fearless+ trim. This variant already offers both 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery options, making it a logical choice for a more affordable AWD entry point. However, it remains uncertain whether AWD will be available with the 65 kWh pack, as Tata currently offers QWD only with the 75 kWh battery.

More Tata AWD Models Coming Soon

With the success of Harrier EV QWD, Tata is preparing to deploy this AWD tech in other upcoming SUVs as well. The Sierra EV is next in line, and the brand has already hinted that the ARGOS platform used for Sierra’s ICE variants could also support AWD. This opens the door for Tata to expand the QWD branding across more models.

Final Thoughts

By bringing the QWD system to lower trims, Tata Motors is set to make the Harrier EV AWD far more accessible to buyers who want strong performance without stretching to the top-end variant. With AWD demand already exceeding expectations, this move will likely strengthen Tata’s position in the electric SUV segment and deliver even better value in the premium EV market.
