MG Gloster recorded total sales of 1,870 units in 2024, making it one of the lowest-selling full-size SUVs in India. Despite its premium features and advanced technology, the Gloster struggled to attract a large customer base. Throughout the year, its sales saw multiple fluctuations, with a mid-year boost but a sharp decline toward the end.
January started with 139 units, followed by a 20.86% increase in February with 168 units. March saw a decline to 131 units (-22.02%), continuing in April with 124 units (-5.34%). May recorded a slight recovery with 135 units (+8.87%), but June saw a minor drop to 132 units (-2.22%). To ensure, the sales doesn’t drop further down, MG launched the Snowstorm and Desertstorm editions for the Gloster to help give it a much needed boost before the big sibling, Majestor launches. July saw a major surge to 191 units (+44.70%), followed by August reaching the highest monthly sales of the year at 236 units (+23.56%). However, the trend reversed in September with 200 units (-15.25%) and continued to drop in October with 176 units (-12.00%). November and December saw further declines, with 138 units (-21.59%) and 100 units (-27.54%) respectively.
The MG Gloster struggled in 2024 mainly due to the overwhelming dominance of the Toyota Fortuner, which is widely known for its size, reliability, and performance. Many buyers overlooked the Gloster in favor of the Fortuner, contributing to its low sales. Additionally, the growing preference for SUVs with a proven track record and strong resale value further impacted the Gloster’s demand. While it offers advanced features and a competitive price, its brand perception and lower market trust compared to Toyota made it a less popular choice.
The MG Gloster ended 2024 with 1,870 units sold, highlighting its challenges in the competitive full-size SUV segment. While it continues to offer premium features and strong road presence, MG needs to strengthen its market strategy to compete effectively against established rivals like the Toyota Fortuner.
