Toyota just achieved a significant milestone that no one would have thought!
The Toyota Innova HyCross has secured a 5-Star Safety Rating from Bharat NCAP, making it one of the safest premium MPVs tested under the new crash test norms. This significant milestone for the popular MPV further boosts its appeal in the Indian market.
Adult Occupant Protection Test
The Toyota Innova HyCross has secured a strong 30.47 out of 32 points in the Adult Occupant Protectio (AOP) in assessment under Bharat NCAP. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, it scored 14.47 out of 16, showcasing good head, neck, and knee protection for both driver and passenger. However, chest protection was rated adequate, resulting in a slight deduction. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the HyCross achieved a perfect 16 out of 16, offering excellent protection across all critical regions. The vehicle also cleared the Side Pole Impact Test, indicating effective protection mechanisms from lateral collisions.
Visual diagrams from the test show that the HyCross structure held up well, with green indicators marking “good” safety for most body areas. The robust platform, seatbelt load limiters, and airbag deployment contributed to its top-tier score. Structural integrity was rated stable, confirming the body shell’s ability to withstand high-impact forces.
Child Occupant Protection Test
In the Child Occupant Protection category, the Toyota Innova HyCross delivered an equally commendable performance, scoring 45.00 out of 49.00. This includes a full 24.00 out of 24.00 in the dynamic test using TOYOTA MIDI i-Size child restraint systems for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. Both were placed in rearward-facing positions using ISOFIX + support leg, providing optimal protection during frontal and side impacts. The CRS installation assessment also saw the vehicle earn 12.00 out of 12.00, confirming excellent compatibility with standard CRS equipment.
ISOFIX and i-Size anchorages are provided as standard in the second-row outboard seats, though unavailable in the front or center positions. Integrated CRS systems are also not offered. The final assessment score was 9.00 out of 13.00, accounting for available safety features and restraint system compatibility. CRS installation results across rows were mostly marked green for pass, especially in the second row, while the third row was exempt from testing due to space constraints.
What it means for Indian Consumers?
This strong performance in crash tests has resulted in the Toyota Innova HyCross receiving a full 5-Star Safety Rating from Bharat NCAP.
Since the Innova HyCross is a premium MPV, this 5-star rating will play a big role in influencing buyer decisions. Families looking for a safe and spacious vehicle will feel more confident choosing the HyCross, knowing it offers top-level protection for both adults and children. Safety has become a key priority for many car buyers in India, especially in this segment where vehicles are often used for long-distance travel with multiple passengers.
The high safety rating also adds more value to the HyCross’s premium pricing. Buyers are not just getting a stylish and feature-rich MPV, but also one that meets the highest safety standards in India. This can give it an edge over rivals in the segment who do not yet have Bharat NCAP ratings.
In short, the 5-star rating makes the Innova HyCross an even stronger package for those prioritising comfort, space, and now—proven safety.
