A New Fortuner-rival has been spied in India for the first time sparking strong expectations of a 2026 launch!

A new premium three-row SUV has been spotted for the first time. It’s the Kia Sorento – an hybrid SUV, confirming that the brand is preparing to enter the higher-end 7-seater segment above the Seltos. The latest spy shots reveal a heavily camouflaged test mule parked inside a facility, but key details such as the long glasshouse, upright stance, and large alloy wheels confirm its identity as the global Sorento. The prototype was seen riding on 19-inches dual-tone alloy wheels, the same design offered on the international Sorento Hybrid. A leaked interior image further reveals a rotary-style gear selector — a feature exclusive to the hybrid variant overseas — strongly hinting that the model under testing is indeed the Sorento Hybrid for India.

Design & Features Expected for India

Kia sorento exterior

Despite the camouflage, the Sorento’s signature boxy silhouette and vertical lighting cues are visible. Covered areas suggest global-design elements like T-shaped LED DRLs, connected LED tail lamps, a wide rear profile, and Kia’s bold Tiger Nose grille. The upright bonnet, squared-off wheel arches and flat tailgate give it a strong road presence, positioning it as a premium family SUV capable of competing with the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster.

Multiple parking sensors cutouts can be seen on the bumpers, similar to global versions. Internationally, the facelifted Sorento also introduced new paint shades such as Interstellar Grey, Cityscape Green and Mineral Blue, which might not make it to India.

Kia Sorento Rotary Dial for gear-shift

Inside, the global model offers a high-end cabin with a panoramic curved display combining twin 12.3-inch screens, Kia’s latest ccNC infotainment software, OTA updates, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, multiple USB-C ports across all rows, ambient lighting, and front ventilated/heated seats. A premium 12 speakers Bose sound system, multi-zone climate control, soft-touch materials and even a suede roof liner on higher variants enhance its luxury appeal. The rotary gear selector in the test mule confirms that Kia is bringing the more upmarket hybrid-oriented model for India.

Engine Options

Kia Sorento

Globally, Kia offers Sorento with multiple engines –

  • 2.5 L NA petrol – 188 bhp, and 245 Nm torque paired to an 8 Speed AT
  • 2.5 L turbo-petrol – 277 bhp, and 422 Nm torque paired to an 8 Speed AT
  • 1.6 L turbo-hybrid – 224 bhp paired with a 44.2 kW motor and 1.5 kWh battery, delivering 250 Nm through a 6-speed automatic

For India, Kia is expected to prioritise the strong-hybrid 1.6-litre turbo setup, given the rising demand for hybrid SUVs. AWD may be offered on higher trims, while FWD is likely to be standard. A petrol-only powertrain could also join the lineup, but a diesel version appears unlikely.

Despite its size, the hybrid model is known for impressive efficiency, with international mileage translating to around 15 kmpl.

Launch & Price

The Sorento is expected to launch in India by late 2026, with testing now already underway. It will be positioned as a premium 7-seater SUV slotting above the Seltos. As for the pricing, it’s expected to be in the range of Rs. 35 – 45 Lakhs. Upon it’s launch, it’ll compete against the MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and Jeep Meridian. Soon, joining the list will be the Volkswagen Tayron which is expected to launch by first quarter of 2026.
