Toyota unveiled the all-new Tacoma with new powertrains, and new platform that underpins Fortuner and Hilux.

Toyota has revealed the new Tacoma that is build on the same TNGA-F Platform which underpins the Fortuner and the Hilux pick-up truck, and has hybrid powertrain options as well.

New Toyota Tacoma – What you need to know!

The Tacoma at the front has a almost squared LED headlamps with a slim LED DRLs and a huge grille that has a large Toyota logo on it. The pick-up truck has a tall front bumper with faux side air vents; the other variants gets black trim on the nose whereas the top variant gets chrome treatment at the front, side profile, and on the alloy wheels. Moving to the rear, it has a new bumper design with C-shaped taillamps that appears to be new as well.

Toyota Tacoma’s off-road variants, TRD Pro, and the Trailhunter gets Toyota lettering on the front grille instead of that big logo with new front skid plate, and black or bronze finish for the tyres depending on the variants. The Tacoma is build on the TNGA-F platform that will be used for the Indian Toyota models in the future. Moreover, this platform will underpin the upcoming next-gen Fortuner and Hilux which uses high-strength steel all over the chassis to improve the rigidity and aluminum on the upper portion of the Tacoma reduce weight of the truck.

As far as the Engine options, it has four powertrains on offer – the 2.4-litre petrol engine that puts out 267.29 bhp paired to a 8-speed Automatic Gearbox. Then there is the same 2.4-litre petrol engine that puts out 270.25 bhp mated to a 6-speed Manual Gearbox. The third powertrain is the again the same 2.4-litre petrol engine that now puts 278.14 bhp for the other automatic gearbox variant, and at last the top variant has the 2.4-litre petrol hybrid engine that has a 1.9 kWh battery pack and a 47.34 bhp electric motor, and together it pumps out 325.48 bhp.

The Tacoma is a rear-wheel-drive as standard with limited slip differential for lower variants; mid-variants gets four-wheel-drive with electronically-controlled transfer case and low range gearing is optional for top and mid variants; the top variant gets four-wheel-drive as standard with center locking differential.

Toyota will not be launching the Tacoma in India, but it is possible that Toyota could bring the petrol-hybrid powertrain with different power output for the next-gen Fortuner and Hilux in India and other international markets. Toyota will continue to offer Fortuner and Hilux with diesel powertrains, except Toyota has to comply with RDE norms if it wants to continue offering the diesel engine. They’re also expected to offer diesel-hybrid engine option for the 2024 Fortuner SUV.
