Hyundai India launched it’s cheapest car of the range in 2011 in the form of Eon.But it doesn’t received that much response when compared to Santro.Now the automakers have decided to discontinue Eon by the end of this year which will be replaced by new generation Santro.
Eon faces the axe as it doesn’t meets the upcoming safety and emission standards in 2019 and 2020.Even some suppliers have been informed that the product would be available for just only a year.
However,Hyundai will not retire the Eon’s platform but rather use it to develop new vehicles.Hyundai is also planning to launch micro-SUV in India along with sub4-metre compact SUV with Carlino moniker.Also stopping the production of Eon will provide Hyundai with some more space for it’s new product.
Initially New 2018 Santro was expected to sit between Eon and Grand i10.The 2018 Santro will be the most important car for Hyundai.New Santro will rival Maruti WagonR,Tata Tiago and top-spec trims of Kwid Facelift 2018.
Santro will have its media reveal on October 4 in Chennai.The Santro name will have a suffix,which will be decided by a competition scheduled for August 16,2018.
New 2018 Santro will continue with tall boy design and borrow many design clues from Hyundai XCent and New Grand i10 2018.Upfront,it sports cascading grille with turn indicators just under the large headlamps.Large windows design similar to i10 will come along with alloys in the top-end trims.Rear gets a large tail light with dual tone bumpers finished with black inserts.Other exterior features includes Rear Defogger,Front Fog lamps,Electric ORVMs with turn indicators.
Santro will get a dual tone black and beige upholstery.Front seat headrest will be integrated along with other features like 3-spoke steering wheel similar to XCent and Grand i10,touchscreen infotainment system,black dash,silver accents on gear lever and centre console with power window controls located behind the gearbox.Rear A/C vent will not be on offer.
Powering the Santro will be a 1.1-litre petrol engine mated to 5-speed manual.A 5-speed Smart Auto will make its debut on the New Santro 2018.A 0.8-litre petrol engine and diesel unit will make way to Santro sometime later after the launch.
