Hyundai Kona EV sets new Guinness record, becomes first Electric SUV to reach 5,731 Metres Altitude

Hyundai Kona Electric has made to the Guinness world record for the electric vehicles.The made in India pure electric Hyundai SUV has driven it to an altitude of 5,731 metres at the Sawula Pass in Tibet, breaking the previous record attained by any electric car of driving it to an altitude of 5,715.28 metres.With this, the Kona Electric SUV has broken the world record by just over 15 metres and becomes the first electric car to drive to such high altitude.

During this drive to the Sawula Pass in Tibet, Hyundai Kona Electric, was charged via the portable battery chargers.With the standard portable chargers, the electric SUV was charged overnight.And also while descending from the peaks, smart energy regeneration system helped to enhance the driving range.The electronic stability programme on Kona helped in the overall suability of vehicle in all road conditions.Hyundai also claims that Kona handled extremely low temperature and continuous rainfall with ease.

He also added, “The KONA Electric is a Tech Icon and the new normal as it is the First Long Range Green SUV with 452 Kms/Charge (ARAI Certified) enhancing Indian customer confidence towards Electric mobility. To avoid any range anxiety; customers will be provided with two chargers along with the car – A portable charger and an AC Wall Box Charger. Additionally, in select cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai) a Special KONA Electric fleet (KONA Electric to KONA Electric) fitted with power converter is providing emergency charging support to the customers. For customer convenience, all Hyundai KONA Electric selling dealerships are equipped with 7.2 kW AC Charger to support customers for KONA Electric Charging.”

Hyundai Kona electric draws power from 39.2kWh lithium ion battery with a total range of 453 km.It also supports DC fast charging which juices up battery from 0-80% in around 57 minutes while the standard portable charger charges upto 100% in 6 hours and 10 minutes.

With the Kona Electric, Hyundai has ensured a complete peace of mind for the customers by offered warranty of 3 years and unlimited kilometres for the SUV and lithium ion battery warranty of 8 years and unto 1,60,000 kms.
