Many car companies have their plans for introducing electric cars in india.There are some electric and hybrid cars available in India right now.Many new concept cars including Electric cars,Future concept cars made debut at Auto Expo 2018.One such electric car is the Hyundai Kona.
A few days back Hyundai India announced that they are going to launch a total of 8 new vehicles in upcoming 2 years,one of them will be electric vehicle.Hyundai has also made announcement that it intend to sell 1 crore hyundai cars in India by 2021.Recently Hyundai’s Chennai plant got the regional HQ tag.When they announced Chennai Hyundai plant getting HQ status,they also talked about their plans regarding made in India vehicle and also announced that their first electric car will be a SUV.CEO of Hyundai India also mentioned that their first electric SUV,Hyundai Kona,will go on sales in India in the later half of 2019.

Hyundai CEO,Koo,also said that they are opposed to Maruti Suzuki and Toyota’s policy of introduction of hybrid cars.They said that either they will go fully electric or not going that way at all.When launched,Kona will go on sale in 15 major cities across the country.
Hyundai India is worried about the infrastructure for EVs in India therefore they wants that lack of charging infrastructure should be compensated by providing home charging kit which includes charging port for electric cars.

Hyundai also suspects that establishment of charging infrastructure may take some time so they wish to use Chennai plant as their base for Made-in-India electric vehicles.
Koo also advised the Indian Government to bring down GST rate on imported electric vehicles which is presently stated at 12%.He wants that if the GST rate comes down to 5%,then it would help in rapid adoption of electric vehicles and setting up of charging network.

Coming to engine,Kona EV will be powered by 125 hp electric motor with 325 Nm of torque.The Electric SUV will have an approx range of 320 kms.Depending on the range,it could be fully charged by an AC/DC charger,which powers home appliances like air conditioner,refrigerator,etc, in around 6-7 hours.With fast charging,full charge can come around 3-4 hours.
Price of India’s 1st Electric SUV is estimated to be between Rs. 20-25 Lakhs in India.
