Maruti Ertiga 1.3 Diesel Variants Discontinued, 1.5 L Diesel is Still Available

Maruti Ertiga has recently got BS-VI compliant petrol engine as well as Ertiga and Ciaz got a bigger 1.5 litre Diesel engine as well.Recently, Maruti has removed the 1.3 litre diesel variants from its Ertiga MPV.Not only Ertiga, is has been doing duty on a number of models as well including Swift, Dzire and others and Maruti cars.

Maruti will remove all the Diesel engine for its cars from April 1, 2020.However, if there is demand for the diesel models, Maruti will upgrade its 1.5 litre Diesel engines to BS-VI in its premium car offering like Maruti Ertiga, Ciaz and upcoming Vitara SUV which will rival Creta.

The 1.3 L Diesel engine for Ertiga was offered in all the trims including LDI, VDI, ZDI and ZDi plus.Now since this fiat sourced 1.3 diesel unit has been removed from Ertiga, now the only Diesel engine is the 1.5 litre one which come offered in VDI, ZDi and ZDI plus models.

Now it means that Maruti Ertiga is available in 1.5 petrol, CNG and 1.5 diesel powertrains.The 1.5 petrol makes about 104 BHP of power and 138 NM of peak torque @ 4400 RPM.It gets power from 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter with ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 19.34 kmpl and 18.69 kmpl respectively.However the 1.3 litre diesel was offered only with manual gearbox.

For CNG, this motor produces 91 BHP of power and 122 NM of peak torque.It gets paired with 5 speed manual gearbox with mileage of 26.2 km/kg and comes in VXI and Tour M trims.And there is also 1.5 litre Diesel engine with 225 NM of maximum torque.It comes in just 6 speed manual transmission option with mileage of 24.2 kmpl.

Now Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs. 7.55 Lakhs and Rs. 11.21 Lakhs (All Prices, Ex Showroom).The 1.3 diesel variants were 35,000 cheaper compared to the 1.5 diesel trims.

No doubt, second generation Maruti Ertiga is going good since its launch in India in November 2018.In the last month only, it has clocked sales of over 9000 units and entered the top 10 highest selling cars in India as of July 2019.In only 10 months from it launch, Ertiga has managed to cross 70,000 sales.

Although all the car companies have seen slight decline in overall sales in last 2 months, Maruti has some big plans for this year’s festive season as Maruti is bringing couple of new models to get back the lost sales.One of the upcoming cars by Maruti will be XL6 which is actually a sportier version of Ertiga with more features and sportier touches on the interior and exterior fronts.Along with this, Maruti S-Presso will be another launch by the car makers for India after New 2019 Wagon R and Maruti XL6.

Maruti Ertiga competes with rivals like Renault Lodgy and Honda BR-V and the top end trims of upcoming Renault Triber will also be falling in the same price bracket as of Ertiga’s base variant.
