9,498 units of Toyota Urban Cruiser recalled over airbag issue

Toyota India has recalled Urban Cruiser for a faulty driver side airbag module. A total of 9,498 units have been affected which are sold between September 23, 2020, the day of launch of Urban Cruiser to February 11, 2021.

Owners of the affected cars will be contacted by the authorised service centres for inspection and in case there is an issue with the module, then it will be replaced free of cost.

Toyota Urban Cruiser is available with 1.5-litre petrol engine with 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic gearbox. Power and torque figures are 103 BHP and 138 NM respectively. Mileage claimed for manual is 17.03 kmpl while for automatic is 18.76 kmpl, higher claimed figures in auto trims, courtesy smart hybrid unit.

Top features of Toyota Urban Cruiser are 2 airbags, Auto dimming IRVM, Rain sensing wipers, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with android auto, apple crawly dual glovebox setup, dual LED Projector headlamps with DRL, LED Fog lights among others.

Since its launch in India in September 2020, the sales of the compact SUV has been quite consistent averaging at 2,700 units per month.
