Honda Cars India discontinued a couple of cars from its lineup including the small hatchback as well as BR-V MPV. Now in next few months the carmakers are planning to bring updates to its current lineup and enter a couple of new segments to get the sales back. Here is list of Upcoming Honda Cars in India in 2020-21:
1. Honda Civic Diesel

Honda Civic was launched in India on March 7, 2019 with BS 6 1.8 litre petrol engine and BS 4 1.6 L i-DTEC diesel mill. April 2020 onwards, the premium sedan was offered with only Diesel engine and now the carmakers are bringing their I-DTEC unit back.
Official bookings for the diesel variants are already open and it gets the same continued engine but the fuel efficiency will slightly be less than before which will be revealed at the time of launch.
The 1.6-litre 4 cylinder I-DTEC turbo Diesel engine makes 118 BHP and 300 NM of peak torque. Like before, it comes paired with 6 speed manual transmission and will be offered in VX and ZX trims missing out on base V model.
The Diesel engine will rejoin with the 1.8-litre petrol engine (140 BHP / 174 NM). Unlike the diesel unit which comes with 6 speed manual transmission, the petrol engine is offered just with CVT automatic gearbox.
When initially launched, the diesel variants were priced between Rs. 20.5 Lakhs (VX) and Rs. 22.30 Lakhs (ZX) (Ex Showroom). With the transition to BS 6, the prices will go up by Rs. 1 Lakh for both the variants with the cost estimated to be between Rs. 21.5 Lakhs and Rs. 23.3 Lakhs.
Honda Cars India discontinued the diesel variants of Civic along with CR-V. Japanese carmakers will only bring back diesel powertrain to Civic while the flagship SUV, Honda CR-V will remain a petrol-only offering.
Top features of Honda Civic are Lane Watch Camera, LED headlamps and tail lamps, Digital instrument cluster, 6 airbags, 8-inch infotainment system, dual zone auto climate control system, smart sunroof, electric parking brake, rain sensing auto wipers, 8 way powered driver seat.
When launched, Honda Civic will take on the likes of Hyundai Elantra and the former is leading the segment pretty well. Skoda Octavia, its key rival, will get back next year.
2. Honda WR-V Facelift

Honda WR-V was launched in India as a sub compact SUV in March 2017 and after 3 years it will be getting a facelift update although a number of new variants, new features were introduced multiple times.The facelifted version of WR-V has started reaching dealerships and the official bookings are already underway.
- Exterior changes new LED projector headlamps which replaced the standard halogen lights. Front chrome grille gets slicker while the grille has been slightly tweaked as well. Skid plates at the lower bumpers grows sideways. Also, halogen fog lamps are now gone and the LED ones come in.
- The alloy wheels are still the same (but it will be different for petrol & diesel variants) and the side profile remains untouched while at the rear standard tail lamp unit gets replaced by new LED tail lights although the design of the tail lamps is still the same.
- Interior changes are just limited to slight tweak to the seat fabric and more chrome while other elements are carry forwarded from the pre facelift variant of the compact SUV
- No changes either in dimensions or the platform have been made as this just a facelift update and not a generation change.
Honda WR-V facelift 2020 will be offered in two variants – SV MT and VX MT, both available in petrol and diesel.
- The 1.2 L I-VTEC petrol engine makes 89 BHP and 110 NM. It comes paired to 5 speed MT with claimed mileage of 16.5 kmpl. The fuel economy has gone down from 17.5 kmpl to 16.5 kmpl.
- 1.5 litre I-DTEC Diesel engine still available with only 6 Speed MT produces 108 BHP and 200 NM. Earlier claimed fuel efficiency of 25.5 kmpl, with the upgrade to BS 6, has come down to 23.7 kmpl.
Honda WR-V SV MT Features
2 airbags, ABS and EBD, Rear parking sensors with reverse camera, high speed alert system, 16” alloys, 7” Digipad infotainment system with android auto, Apple Carplay, powered ORVMs and rear defogger.
Honda WR-V VX MT Features
LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps and tail lamps, cruise control, push start button with keyless entry, cruise controls, leather steering wheel.
Honda WR-V is still offered with the same set of colour options – White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver, Premium Amber, Radiant Red Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic.
Honda WR-V is currently priced between Rs. 8.15 Lakhs to Rs. 10.48 Lakhs and with the update, facelift Honda WR-V is expected to cost Rs. 8.25 Lakhs for the base petrol variant and Rs. 10.6 Lakhs for the top end diesel trim. When launched, it will rekindle its rivalry with Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300.
3. Honda Jazz Facelift

Honda Jazz Facelift will be available with only 1.2 litre I-VTEC 4 cylinder petrol engine producing 89 BHP and 110 NM of torque and mated to 5 Speed manual and CVT options. Mileage currently claimed at 18.2 kmpl for MT and 19 kmpl for CVT will be reduced by 1 kmpl on the BS 6 transition.
1.5 litre Diesel engine currently available in the pre facelift Honda Jazz won’t be a part of the engine lineup in the BS 6 facelifted Jazz. This mill was offered with just 5 speed manual gearbox.
As compared to pre facelift, the facelifted version of Honda Jazz gets LED headlamps rather than simple halogen lights. It has got now black grille instead of chrome grille with use of chrome accents. Like the WR-V, it also gets LED fog lights as well. Other this, there will just mild updates to the LED tail lamps and interior fabrics.
Pre facelift Honda Jazz is priced between Rs. 7.45 Lakhs and Rs. 9.28 Lakhs for the 1.2 litre petrol and Rs. 8.16 Lakhs upto Rs. 9.41 Lakhs for the diesel manual trims. 2020 Honda Jazz is expected to be priced between Rs. 7.6 Lakhs for the base petrol trim and Rs. 9.35 Lakhs for the top end petrol.
When launched in its facelifted form, Honda Jazz will continue its competition with Hyundai Elite I20, Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz and Volkswagen Polo.
4. Honda New City

Honda City gets changes in every aspect whether its the platform, exterior, interior, dimensions, features, variants, each and every thing gets updated to better compete with the newly updated rivals.
Upfront it gets bold front chrome grille, LED headlamps with DRLs. The alloys wheels have been derived from Honda City RS (Thailand spec). Coming to the rear profile, tail lamps are sleeker than before and are all LEDs.
The cabin is completely revamped as well. Steering wheel unit is all new while the 3D combimeter gets replaced by new cluster with G-force meter. In the centre of the dash, is a new 8” infotainment system surrounds by vertically stacked air con vents. The touch panel controlled climate system is replaced by button operation.
In terms of dimensions, is measures 4,549 mm in length (109 mm longer), 1,748 mm (53 mm wider), 1,489 mm in height (6 mm shorter). Wheelbase is rated at 2,600 mm which is exactly similar like before while boot capacity is 4 litres than earlier at 506-litres.
It gets 1.5-litre petrol as well as 1.5-litre Diesel engine while the RS 1.0 litre engine offered in the Thailand spec Honda City will not be making to the Indian market.
- 1.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine makes 119 BHP and 145 NM of torque. With 6 speed manual gearbox (earlier 5 speed MT on offer) and CVT on offer, claimed mileage is 17.8 kmpl and 18.4 kmpl respectively which translates into 0.4 kmpl better efficiency than before.
- The Diesel engine produces 99 BHP and 200 NM of max torque. It is still available with 6 speed manual transmission and still doesn’t get CVT. For the diesel manual, Honda Cars India claims 24.1 kmpl mileage.
Honda City presently priced between Rs. 9.91 Lakhs to Rs. 14.31 Lakhs for the petrol variants (as the diesel have been discontinued) will continue to sell along with the New City until its stock is exhausted. The 5th gen City will be costlier than before with a price tag of Rs. 10.5 Lakhs and Rs. 16 Lakhs (Ex Showroom).
Honda City has got a number of rivals but still it leaves behind all of them. It would be interesting to watch how the upgraded sedan competes with the competitors including Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, Toyota Yaris and Maruti Ciaz.
