Upcoming Hyundai cars in India 2020-22

Hyundai India begin the year 2020 with the launch of all new compact sedan in the form of Aura and then brought in updates to the high sales churners including the Creta and the Verna. After bringing these three cars, Hyundai will introduce many more products in new segment as well includes MPV, full size 7 seater, micro suv and others. Here is a list of Upcoming Hyundai cars in India with expected price and launch date:

1. Hyundai Tucson Facelift

Hyundai showcased the Tucson facelift at the Auto Expo 2020 with mild exterior updates including new LED headlights, redesigned front grille, bumpers. 

Moving to the side profile, the alloys wheels are of same size but are in dual tone finish. The tail lights are reworked as well.

On the inside, Hyundai has updated the design of the dashboard which now comes with 8-inch free standing infotainment system.

Features of Tucson Facelift are wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, Blue Link connected car technology, dual zone climate control, push button start with keyless entry, leather seat upholstery.

Safety equipment on offer are ABS with EBD, Emergency Stop Signal, Auto Dimming IRVM, 6 airbags, Hill start assist, Hill descent control, Electric parking brake, Traction control system, rain sensing wipers and auto headlamps.

It will carry forward the engine options from the pre facelift Tucson which includes:

  • 2.0 litre petrol engine with 148 BHP of power and 192 NM of peak torque. Transmission options are 6 speed manual and 6 speed torque converter automatic.
  • 2.0 L diesel mill with 180 BHP of power and max torque is rated at 400 NM. It gets all new 8 speed torque converter automatic apart from 6 speed manual transmission. Hyundai will also have AWD in the top variants of diesel Tucson.

Expected price of Tucson facelift 2020 is Rs. 19 Lakhs to Rs. 27 lakhs (Ex Showroom). Key rivals are Jeep Compass, VW T-Roc and Skoda Karoq.

The facelift Tucson was expected to go on sale in early April but due to coronavirus pandemic the launch has been pushed to July 2020.

2. Hyundai New i20 2020

One of the much awaited car of the year is new generation Hyundai i20. It will imbibe a complete exterior and interior update along with new set of BS 6 engine options and a new price tag as well.

In terms of exterior looks, the hatchback looks much more modern and stylish than the present generation of the hatchback. Upfront, it features Hyundai’s signature cascading grille and LED headlamps which incorporates the DRLs. Fog lamps are also projector.

The alloy wheels are diamond cut and of 16-inches. Chrome window belt line further enhances the premiumness of the car. Rear section has been completely updated to distinguish it from the ongoing i20. Going by the tradition, Hyundai i20 gets connected LED tail lamps with sleek design and are in Z-shape.

I20 interior theme will vary according to the engine option you choose. It will have dash top 8-inch infotainment system with all the modern technology on board. Instrument cluster will be borrowed from Verna facelift . Steering wheel unit comes straight up from second gen Creta. Also Hyundai is likely to tweak the design of the door handles on the inside.

New i20 interior

The dimensions of the New i20 are yet to be revealed but as per the latest news, the hatchback will be much longer than before with more wheelbase. Earlier people often complained about less space inside the cabin and also low boot carrying capacity which will be resolved with the launch of updated i20 in India.

Engine options are similar to Hyundai Venue – 1.0 litre petrol, 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre Diesel engine. Here are the engine specs of New i20 2020:

  • 1.2 litre MPI 4 Cylinder Petrol engine with 82 BHP and 115 NM will be available with 5 Speed MT / 5 Speed AMT with expected fuel efficiency of 20.2 kmpl.
  • 1.0 litre Turbo GDI 3 cylinder petrol (998 cc) will be tuned to generate out 118 BHP and 172 NM of peak torque. Transmission options are 6 Speed MT and 7 Speed DCT with ARAI mileage being slightly better than 1.2 L petrol at 21 kmpl.
  • 1.5 L U2 CRDi, powering couple of Hyundai and Kia cars will have the same output figures (99 BHP / 240 NM) as of Venue SUV. Hyundai will provide 6 speed manual gearbox with this unit with fuel economy to be somewhere around 24 kmpl.

Hyundai i20 2020 is expected to be priced between Rs. 5.6 Lakhs to Rs. 10 Lakhs (Ex Showroom). The launch of i20 has been delayed from June 2020 to September 2020 due to the pandemic. When introduced, the new hatchback will rekindle its rivalry with Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, VW Polo and Honda Jazz.

3. Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai Palisade has remained one of the most popular choices in the International markets and the SUV-loving Indian crowd would surely love this SUV as well. Hyundai India is looking for the local assembly of the Palisade at their Chennai plant which will help to phase out the import duties and keep the price competitive.

Palisade looks mammoth from the exterior. It features massive front cascading grille and triple LED headlamps with thick strip of LED DRLs. The headlamps and DRLs looks similar to Creta but much-much bigger in size. Lots of chrome has been used whether its around / in front grille, window belt line or tail lamp surrounds.

The interior of Hyundai Palisade will be available in dual tone theme which can be had in multiple customisations as well. High quality material will be used with highly cushioned seats. Dual screen setup includes 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and infotainment system. Separate air con vents will be available for all three rows along with charging sockets.

In terms of dimensions, Palisade measures 4,980 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, 1,750 mm in height and 2,900 mm wheelbase. Hyundai will offer the flagship SUV in India in captain seats (6 seater) as well as bench type rear seat option (7 seater).

3 zone automatic climate control, dual pane sunroof, digital instrument cluster, Blue Link, LED headlamps, tail lamps, 18-inch alloys, configurable ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front & rear seats, reclinable rear seats, rear door sunshade, heads up display, 12.3-inch touchscreen system will make the top features list of Palisade.

Safety equipment of Hyundai Palisade will be at par with its rivals, which includes 7 airbags, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Electric Parking Brake, Tyre Tronics, 360 degree camera, ABS with EBD.

Hyundai India will make the Palisade available with one petrol and one Diesel engine options. Below are the details of the engine specifications:

  • 3.8 litre GDI V6 petrol engine with 291 BHP and 355 NM of peak torque. It will be offered with 8 speed automatic transmission. 0-100 kmph comes in just 7.7 seconds.
  • The diesel unit will be the 2.2 litre TCi mill with 199 BHP and 441 NM of torque output. There won’t be any manual transmission on offer as it gets only 8 speed AT. It will also be available with 4WD and sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in 10.2 seconds.

It will be slightly expensive than its rivals with expected price tag of Rs. 31 lakhs for the base trim going unto Rs. 37 lakhs for the range topping variant. The South Korean SUV will lock horns with Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour.

4. Hyundai Creta 7 Seater

Hyundai India will enter into a new segment in India with its Creta 7 seater(the name is yet to be finalised). It will derive the front look from Creta 5 seater albeit with some tweaks while the rear section will get big size LED tail lamps which be quite unique in terms of looks. Alloy wheels size will be same as that of Creta but design will be changed a bit. It has been spied testing a couple of times in South Korea and India.

Hyundai Creta 7 Seater

Coming to the interior, Creta 7 seater will get option of dual tone black / beige (not black / grey of Creta) and all black seat upholstery. Instead of semi digital instrument panel, 7 seater version will have all digital cluster. Another change that we can expect on the inside is portrait 10.25” infotainment system which currently the Chinese spec Creta has apart from the addition of the third row.

The dimensions will be increased including the length, width, wheelbase while boot space will be less than 5 seater Creta due to addition of 3rd row. Ground clearance will be 190 mm and in order to avoid additional cost, Hyundai India will use the Advanced K2 platform (used in Creta / Seltos) for the 7-seater Creta.

Both petrol and Diesel engine option will be available although it won’t be getting the 1.5-litre MPI petrol mill from Creta. It will have 1 petrol engine and 1 Diesel engine to offer:

  • 1.4 litre Turbo GDI petrol engine with power and torque configurations of 138 BHP and 242 NM will be made available with 6 speed manual and 7 speed DCT gearbox with expected fuel efficiency of 16 kmpl.
  • The 1.5 litre U2 CRDi diesel powertrain will also be available with manual (6 Speed MT) and automatic (6 Speed torque converter) gearbox. It will be tuned to generate out 113 BHP and 250 NM of peak torque and with increase in size and weight, the claimed mileage will come down to 20.5 kmpl.

When launched in India, Creta 7 seater will be Rs. 1 lakh premium then standard Creta with price expected to between Rs. 11 Lakhs and Rs. 18.5 Lakhs for the top spec trim. Launch of the 7-seater South Korean MPV has already been confirmed for festive season 2020.

This segment in which Hyundai will step in next year is going to become really competitive as the rivals of the MPV are MG Hector Plus, Tata Gravitas, Toyota Innova Crysta and new Gen Mahindra XUV500.

5. Hyundai New Elantra

Hyundai launched Elantra facelift in India in October 2019 but it has not been able to garner that much sales compared to its rivals. In April 2020, the carmakers unveiled the 7th generation of the sedan which will replace the current spec Elantra next year.

Exterior updates includes redesigned LED headlamps, cascading grille with wide air intakes. Sharp creases flows along with sides which resembles the shape of LED tail lamps at the rear which are connected. 

New i20 2020 and 2021 Elantra shares the interior design whether it is steering wheel, instrument cluster, air conditioning unit look and all other. The free standing 10.25” infotainment system will support Apple Carplay, android auto, blue link, mirror link and navigation.

New features that the 2021 Elantra will come bundled with are digital instrument panel, 10.25” infotainment system, electric sunroof, dual zone ac, front powered seats with ventilation, hands free tailgate operation, heads up display, 8 speaker Bose sound system.

Safety features that Hyundai will offer in Elantra are 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, 360 degree surround view camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill start assist, vehicle stability management and certain basic equipments.

New Generation Hyundai Elantra

The sedan will have multiple engines to offer ranging from 1.4 litre turbo petrol to 2.0 litre petrol. Here are specs of all the engine options of New Elantra 2021:

  • 1.4 litre turbo petrol (6 Speed MT / 7 Speed DCT) will have the same output figures (138 BHP & 242 NM) as that of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
  • 2.0 litre petrol with power of 150 BHP and 192 NM of maximum torque. The 2.0 L Nu 4 cylinder petrol gasoline engine will be made available with 6 speed manual and 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission. This engine option is even found in current gen Elantra.
  • 1.5 litre CRDi Diesel engine powering Hyundai and Kia’s SUVs, compact SUVs, hatchbacks in India with different configurations will be the lone Diesel engine on offer. This Diesel engine makes 113 BHP of power and 250 NM of torque.

2021 Hyundai Elantra is expected to be launched in India between the price of Rs. 14.5 lakhs and Rs. 21 Lakhs. The South Korean sedan with new features, new engine options and updated design language will join the segment and continue to rival against Honda Civic and new generation of Skoda Octavia.

6. Hyundai Nexo

Hyundai Nexo is a hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle which will increase the green vehicle lineup of the South Korean carmakers in India. Hyundai India has already electric car in the form of Kona EV and couple of months back they have begun a feasibility study for the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles.

Nexo is more of a crossover than a SUV. It is ergonomically designed and has sleek and modern detailing. Sharp creases continues to flow along the sides and at the rear, distinctive LED tail lamps are present. Upfront, it gets Hyundai’s signature cascading front grille with chrome slats.

On the inside, Nexo will have dual tone environment and dual 12.3” screen setup. Like the Kona EV, the buttons and switches will have an aluminium finish along with steering control, inside door handles. Steering wheel design is all new.

It measures 4,670 mm in length, is 1,860 mm wide, height is 1,640 mm while the wheelbase is 2,790 mm. Wheel size is 18-inches.

Hyundai Nexo Interior

Safety equipments are 8 airbags, electric parking brake, TPMS, 360 degree camera, blind spot monitor, all four disc brakes, park assist, rain sensing wipers.

  • Nexo come with 95 kW fuel cell that powers en electric motors with claimed range of as high as 1000 km which can charged under 5 minutes. The output figures are 159 BHP and 395 NM.
  • Nexo can move from propel from 0-100 mph in 9.2 seconds with max speed rated at 177 kmph.

It is expected to carry a price tag of between Rs. 40 Lakhs and Rs. 45 Lakhs (Ex Showroom). At the time of launch, it won’t have any direct competitors.

When launched in India in January 2022, Hyundai Nexo will be charged via the fuel cell charging points which will be first stationed in the capital and then the carmakers will look to expand in other states with the setup of more and more charging stations.

7. Hyundai AX Micro SUV

Hyundai will offer more and more SUVs in various segment whether its a mini SUV or a flagship product. The micro SUV will be launched in the price bracket of Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 6 Lakhs (Ex Showroom). Key SUVs in this price point are Tata HBX, Maruti S Presso and Mahindra KUV100.

The concept SUV was not showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. In the Hyundai’s SUV lineup in India, it will be placed below the Venue. The AX SUV will share the platform with Santro and dimensions are expected to just bit more than the latter. 

The exterior styling and design language of Hyundai AX is quite distinctive. The production version will get cascading front grille, LED headlamp unit with DRLs, 14-inch wheels and LED tail lights as well. 

The interiors of the SUV has also been revealed in the concept form but tells certain details about the music system, steering wheel design and seats arrangement. Like the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura, the upcoming mini SUv by Hyundai will have only rear adjustable headrest.

The infotainment system seems to be integrated in the dashboard and cabin will have a dual tone theme. You can expect the space inside the cabin to be similar to Maruti S Presso or Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

There will be only one petrol engine on offer which Hyundai also provides in the Santro hatchback. It won’t be getting a diesel mill and likely to go full electric after two to three years of launch.

  • The 1.1 litre 3 cylinder Epsilon petrol mill makes 68 BHP and 99 NM. Transmission duties will be handled by 5 speed manual and in house developed 5 speed AMT gearbox. Mileage will be around 21 kmpl.

Hyundai AX Micro SUV will be priced between Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 6 lakhs and is going to be pitched against the mini SUVs, a segment which is going to become highly competitive in near future.

8. Hyundai 7 Seater MPV

Hyundai’s Ertiga rival has been spied testing with heavy camouflage inside out. The carmakers did showcased their Hexa Space MPV at auto expo 2012 with plans to bring it in the market by 2014 and the road testing begun but the plan was cancelled due to poor sales in the MPV segment. Now Hyundai India is going to enter in this segment which has been churning out good numbers, Maruti Ertiga being the witness.

The spied model has covered under camouflage but certain details revealed which tells that the design is quite similar to New Creta 2020 from front and rear end. While on the inside, the steering wheel spied is also borrowed from the SUV.Other interior elements visible are dash top infotainment system.

Features that Hyundai will load in its upcoming MPV to rival Maruti’s Ertiga are 10.25-inch infotainment system, semi digital instrument cluster, leather seat upholstery, electric sunroof, wireless charging, automatic climate control, rear ac vents, blue link technology, LED headlamps, DRLs, tail lights.

Safety features of Hyundai’s MPV will be more than that of Ertiga as it gets 6 airbags, TPMS, rain sensing wipers, automatic and follow me home lamps, hill launch assist, electronic stability programme, traction control and much more. 

To compete with the top selling MPV, Ertiga, Hyundai India will provide a variety of petrol & Diesel engine and transmission option for its upcoming MPV albeit it won’t get the Petrol-CNG bi-fuel option as available in Ertiga.

  • 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo GDI petrol engine with 118 BHP and 172 NM can be had in 7 Speed DCT while 1.5 L MPI 4 Cylinder Petrol (113 BHP / 144 NM) will have 6 Speed MT as well as 6 Speed CVT gearbox.
  • The widely used 1493 cc Diesel engine will have the output figures of 99 BHP and 240 NM. This engine options will be available with both the gearbox options.

Hyundai’s 7 seater MPV will be available in 6-seater as well as 7-seater configuration which means the option of both the captain second row seats or bench type seats for the 2nd row occupants.

In the aspect of pricing, it will be cut to cut to the direct competitor. Expected price of the MPV is Rs. 7 Lakhs to Rs. 12 lakhs (Ex Showroom). It will locally assembled at Hyundai’s Chennai plant and likely to be launched in festive season of 2022.
