Honda Elevate against the Tata Nexon!

Honda had globally premiered the Elevate SUV in June but is yet to announce the pricing of the SUV. However, we know everything about the SUV and we thought of comparing it against the Tata Nexon to see if the Elevate is worth buying over the Nexon!

Honda Elevate vs Tata Nexon – Design

From the outside, the Elevate has a front grille with small rectangular blocks pattern on it with Honda logo at the center, LED headlamps and two round fog lamps underneath, a large chrome element that connects with the headlamps, and a flat bonnet with few cuts and creases. The bumpers are finished in faux silver skid plate. The Elevate share’s the design cues with the HR-V SUV that is sold overseas. Moving to the side, it has slightly flared wheel arches for a chunky SUV, chrome door handles, non-functional roof rails, and rides on 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, it has a L-shaped LED taillamps with dual lines inside them, roof spoiler on top with shark fin antenna, and an indentation around the number plate housing.

Tata Nexon front has black element that connect withs the LED headlamps with LED DRLs inside the headlamps that kind of look similar to the rear taillamps and the bottom is the tri-arrow grille with fog lamps at the sides. From the side, it has creases to give it mean look. It has a non-functional roof-rail and rides on the 16-inch alloy wheels. The front and rear bumper are finished in silver faux skid plate. At the rear, it has LED taillamps with two lines within them and has a rear wiper at the rear windscreen with shark fin antenna on top.

From the inside, it has a 10.25-inch free-standing infotainment system with rectangular AC vents below and at the sides, and below the automatic climate control is the wireless charging pad and two USB charging ports next to it on the right, and below that is two cupholders. The Elevate uses soft touch leather materials on the dashboard, leather for the seats, and on the doors. The Elevate has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with 7-inch instrument cluster as well. The push start/stop button is placed on the left next to the infotainment system behind the steering wheel. Moving to the rear, the seats are split in 60:40 ratio and has 8-speaker surround sound system.

As for the Nexon, it has a 7-inch infotainment system placed above the AC vents, and the AC Vents are positioned horizontally. The Nexon does not have the dual-tone dashboard option. It has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, and single-pane sunroof. It has a rotary dial before the gear lever for drive modes, and the buttons for the ventilated seats are placed at the bottom side of the seat. The Nexon has a leather seat upholstery and an 8-speaker Harman sound system. The seats at the rear are split in 60:40 ratio.

In terms of dimensions, the Honda Elevate measures 4312mm in length, 1790mm in width, and 1650mm in height. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon measures 3993mm in length which is 319mm longer in length, 1811mm in width which is 21mm wider, and height of 1606mm that is shorter by 44mm. The Elevate features a wheelbase of 2650mm, ground clearance of 220mm, and boot space of 458 litres where as the Nexon features a wheelbase of 2498mm that is shorter by 152mm, ground clearance of 209mm which is 11mm lower, and 350 litre boot space which is smaller by 108 litre.

In Engine Options, the Elevate comes with a normal Petrol powertrain which the Nexon SUV doesn’t get. The Elevate is powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine that pumps out 119.34 bhp and 145 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Manual Gearbox and an Advanced CVT Gearbox.

Tata offers turbo petrol powertrain for the Nexon, something that Honda will never offer with the Elevate SUV. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out 118.35 bhp and 170 Nm of torque mated to 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 17.05 kmpl.

Other than the Turbo Petrol Powertrain, Tata offers Turbo Diesel Powertrain which the Elevate will not get in the future. The Tata Nexon has the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine produces 113.42 bhp and 260 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with a fuel efficiency of 24.05 kmpl.

In Features, the Elevate SUV misses out on auto-dimming IRVM, Cooled Glovebox, and ventilated seats where as the Nexon misses out on bigger infotainment system, and LED Projector headlamps.

The Tata Nexon is priced at Rs. 7.80 lakh for the base ‘XE’ variant and goes up to Rs. 14.50 lakh for the top variant, ‘XZA Plus LUXS Red Dark’ Diesel Automatic where as the Honda Elevate is expected to start at Rs. 12 lakh for the base variant, ‘SV.’

As for the warranty, the Elevate has a warranty period of 3 years/1,00,000 km that can be extended up to 5 years/unlimited km and Tata offers 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the Harrier that can be extended up to 5 years/unlimited kms.

Honda Elevate vs Tata Nexon – Verdict

In the end, the decision to buy which SUV depends totally on you, however, it is recommended to get the Tata Nexon as it’s got Global NCAP 5-star safety rating, spacious, very feature-loaded, and engine performance and fuel efficiency is good as well. The Honda Elevate on the other hand looks spacious from outside and inside, and it’s got good amount of features, and it’s performance is similar to it’s own sedan, Honda City. So, if you’re looking for a big SUV, then Honda Elevate is the choice and you should wait for it’s launch, or if you’ve a small SUV requirement, then Tata Nexon is the right choice.
