Maruti and Toyota will be in big trouble when this carmaker offers Efficient and Powerful Hybrid Option!
Hyundai has begun work on the third-generation Creta, internally codenamed SX3. Now, it has been confirmed that the upcoming model will feature a strong hybrid powertrain by 2027. With this update, the new Creta will offer a total of four engine options – petrol, turbo petrol, diesel, and a petrol-hybrid setup.
Hyundai will use 1.5L NA Petrol Engine for Hybrid
The third-gen Hyundai Creta will be offered with a petrol-hybrid option based on the brand’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is the same setup that is expected to power the hybrid version of the second-gen Kia Seltos. In addition to the hybrid, Hyundai will continue offering the existing powertrains – a 1.5-litre NA petrol with 115 hp, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 160 hp, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 116 hp.
Once launched, the Creta hybrid will go head-to-head with other midsize hybrid SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Renault Duster hybrid, Nissan’s upcoming midsize hybrid SUV, and the Kia Seltos hybrid.
Creta Electric Facelift in 2027
Hyundai will also be updating the Creta Electric with a facelift in 2027. However, this won’t be a full model change. The mid-cycle refresh is expected to bring styling updates, new features, improved tech, and possibly a longer driving range thanks to larger battery packs or software enhancements in battery management.
Hyundai Strengthens Hybrid SUV Line-up for India
Hyundai’s growing focus on hybrid technology is driven by upcoming CAFE 3 emission norms and the lack of widespread EV infrastructure in India. As part of its long-term strategy, the company is targeting the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh SUV market with multiple hybrid options. Before the hybrid Creta arrives, Hyundai will first launch a new hybrid SUV that will be positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson, marking its first hybrid SUV in India.
This move is aimed at offering fuel-efficient, regulation-friendly models that appeal to both domestic buyers and export markets.
