India-bound Skoda Kodiaq has been tested at the Euro NCAP and it secured 5 Stars Safety Rating scoring 89% in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 83% for Child Occupant Protection, 78% for Safety Assist Systems and 82% vulnerable road users (VRU).
Skoda Kodiaq Crash Tested at Euro NCAP: How Did it Perform?
Adult Occupant Protection:
In the frontal offset test, the Kodiaq’s bodyshell remained stable, providing good knee and femur protection for both driver and passenger, despite some penalties. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection was good or adequate for all critical areas. Side barrier and pole impact tests showed good protection for all critical areas, earning maximum points. Front seats and head restraints effectively protected against whiplash.
Child Occupant Protection:
The Kodiaq provided good protection for all critical body parts of both 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies in both frontal offset and side barrier tests, except for the 10-year-old’s neck, which was rated adequate. The front passenger airbag can be disabled for rearward-facing child restraints, with clear communication of its status to the driver. The Kodiaq does not feature a child presence detection system.
Safety Assist Systems:
The AEB system performed well in reacting to other vehicles. The lane support system gently corrects lane drifting and intervenes in critical situations. The speed assistance system detects local speed limits, allowing the driver to automatically set the limiter.
Vulnerable Road Users:
Head protection for struck pedestrians and cyclists was predominantly adequate, but poor on the windscreen pillars and base. The AEB system responded adequately to pedestrians and well to cyclists, including ‘dooring’ scenarios. The Kodiaq also performed well in lane assist systems.
