Kia India and Tata Motors will soon be launching the facelift update of their compact SUV, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon. Both has great features and performance on offer, therefore, it’s better to compare the two against the each other to find that out.
Kia Sonet Facelift vs Tata Nexon Facelift – Design
The Kia Sonet Facelift will get crisper headlamp design and piano-black finished grille which is newly designed. The headlamps appears to be connected with the fog lamps vertically which might be used as LED DRLs or turn indicators. There will be new bumper as well with large fog-lamps. At the rear, the Sonet facelift has L-shaped tail lamps similar to the one seen on the upcoming Seltos where as the current one has straight tail lamps with cube-shaped light inside the tail lamps which works as brake lights and for parking lights. From the inside, the interiors could be tweaked and a new infotainment system, similar to the one in Carens and refreshed digital instrument cluster.
The Tata Nexon facelift front design will receive modifications especially the newly created grille which is taken inspiration from the Tata Curvv. It might also get new set of alloy wheels and the rear end will also receive some sort of changes as well like the taillamps connected by the LED light bar. From the inside, it’ll have purple seat upholstery, center console same as the one in Nexon EV MAX, digital instrument cluster, and for the first time in any car, has a display on the two-spoke steering wheel.

When it comes to dimensions, the current Sonet has a length of 3995mm, width of 1790mm, and height of 1642mm. The current Nexon has a length of 3993mm in length which is 2mm shorter than Sonet, 1811mm in width which is wide by 21mm, and height of 1606mm that is shorter by 36mm. The current Sonet has a wheelbase of 2500mm, ground clearance of 205mm, and boot space of 392 litres where as the current Nexon has a wheelbase of 2498mm, ground clearance of 209mm that is 4mm higher, and boot space of 350 litres which is smaller by 42 litres.
So, when it comes to dimensions, we don’t expect it to change except the wheelbase could increase, the kerb weight and the gross vehicle weight could increase as well.

When it comes to Engine Options, the Kia Sonet facelift will continue to be powered by the 1.0-turbo petrol engine which produces 118.36 bhp and 172 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed iMT, and 7-speed DCT Gearbox. Tata Nexon Facelift on the other hand will have a new turbo engine taken from the Tata Curvv, which is the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out 125 bhp and 225 Nm of torque paired to 5-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox.

The Kia Sonet Facelift will continue get the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 81.86 bhp and 115 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed manual Gearbox. Then there is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 113.48 bhp and 250 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed iMT, and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox.

As for the Tata Nexon, the current one has ventilated seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, Semi-digital instrument cluster, 7-inch infotainment system, Wireless Charging, 8-speaker Harman sound system, air purifier, single-pane sunroof, reverse parking camera with rear parking sensors. With the facelift update, it’ll get 360-degree camera, new 10.25-inch infotainment system, and possibly ADAS which would it the first Compact SUV to have ADAS.

The Kia Sonet Facelift is expected to be priced at Rs. 8 lakh and the Tata Nexon Facelift is expected to be priced at Rs. 8.50 lakh. As for the launch, Kia will be launching the Sonet facelift by the end of this year, and the Nexon facelift is expected to launch in August 2023.
