While we know Mahindra is testing the 5-door Thar and will be launching it in 2024. The 5-door Thar will have lots of new features, and new interior look as well.
Mahindra 3-door vs 5-door Thar – Exterior and Interior
The front design of the 5-door will be the same as the 3-door version, and could tweaked it slightly for an aggressive mean look. At the front, the Thar has a round headlamps with six vertical bars on the grille, the front bumper is made of hard plastic, and flat bonnet. From the side, well, it has an extra door on both sides with square windows, step-up side plate, and 18-inch alloy wheels, and a single-pane sunroof on top which is not present in the 3-door version as it’s got hard-top, and soft-top roof that can be removed as well. However, the 5-door version Thar will not have the option to remove the roof, therefore, Mahindra is adding single-pane sunroof to make up for it and to get the aiery feeling in the 5-door version Thar as well.
From the inside, the 3-door Thar has a 7-inch infotainment system which really looks outdated and does not blend with the dashboard design of the Thar. So, to stay updated, Mahindra could add the 8-inch infotainment system which will be the same as the one in Scorpio-N with updated UI and refreshed. In the back seats, the 3-door versions is split in 50:50 ratio and less space was there and was less comfy. However, in the 5-door Thar, it will have more room in the back to give better space and comfort as the seats will be split in 60:40 ratio.
The boot space of 3-door Thar is relatively very small, and very few things can be stored. In the 5-door it will a much bigger boot to place your suitcases, or other equipments.

The 3-door Mahindra Thar has 2 turbo diesel and 1 turbo petrol powertrains. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel that puts out 116.93 bhp and 300 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed Manual Only Gearbox. Then there is the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 130 bhp and 300 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic Gearbox. And then, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 128.21 bhp and 300 Nm of torque in 6-speed Manual Gearbox and 320 Nm of torque in 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic gearbox. It is possible the 5-door Thar will get the same engine options except the power output might be increased a little to do proper off-roading.
Mahindra 3-door vs 5-door Thar – Features, Price, and Launch
When it comes to features, the 3-door Thar has 7-inch infotainment system, wired Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 6-speaker sound system, height adjustable driver seat, fabric seats upholstery, two airbags, 18-inch alloy wheels, reverse-parking camera with rear sensors, hill assist, hill descent control, traction control, and Front Disc Brakes. However, the 5-door version will lot of new and better features such as 8-inch infotainment system, Limited Slip Differential, Semi-Digital instrument cluster which could be same as the one in Scorpio-N, six airbags, Disc Brakes for all 4 wheels, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, single-pane sunroof, and many more.
The Mahindra Thar 3-door is currently sold at a price of Rs. 10.54 lakh for the entry-level variant and Rs. 16.78 lakh for the top variant. The 5-door Thar will be a pricier than the 3-door version, and could be around Rs. 15 lakh.
As for the launch, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is scheduled sometime in 2024 with the Force 5-door Gurkha also scheduled to launch in 2024 as well. The Mahindra Thar 5-door on it’s launch will directly rival the Maruti Jimny 5-door.
