MG Gloster against the Mahindra XUV700!

MG Gloster vs Mahindra XUV700 – Exterior and Interior

From the front, MG Gloster has grille with three horizontal lines finished in chrome and the grille border is finished in chrome as well. It has sleek LED headlamps with slight cuts on the bonnet and LED DRLs is positioned horizontally with the bumpers finished in faux silver skid plate. Moving to the side, it has a chrome line that runs through the bottom of the window frame to form an L line, chrome door handles, step-up plate, and roof rails on the top. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels. Moving to the rear, it has LED taillamps, and a little roof spoiler.

At the front of the Mahindra XUV700, you can see there is the grille with twin-vertical bars and the first and last twin vertical bars bends to give that flowing into LED headlamps, which those two lines act as LED DRLs as well. The side profile of the XUV700 is just clean with roofline, chrome line on the bottom frame of window, the smart door handle for improved aerodynamics, non-functional roof rails, and thin wheel arch lines. At the rear, it has the arrow-shape taillamps, rear spoiler with shark fin antenna on top, and the bumper finished in faux silver skid plate.

The MG Gloster on the other hand has a 12.21-inch infotainment system placed above the thinner rectangular AC vents with controls for the climate control below. It has the dual-tone dashboard theme option as well. The Gloster has a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel with a digital instrument cluster, push start/stop engine button is positioned on the left side near the infotainment system, and a huge panoramic sunroof. Around the gear lever, it has buttons for ventilated and heated seats for driver, and ventilated seats for passenger, hill descent control, traction control, idle stop/start control, self-park, electronic differential lock, lane keep assist, electric parking brake with auto hold function, and round dial for drive modes. The second row gets captain seats with two cupholders in the left captain seats, and some storage space in the right captain seats. The third row is good for adults and children for city travels, however for longer distances, the third row is good for children only and not for adults. Lastly, the Gloster has 12-speaker sound system.

As for the XUV700, it has dual 10.25-inch displays with one being the infotainment system and the other acting as a digital instrument cluster. It has rectangular shape AC Vents at the sides with the dual-tone dashboard theme option as well. The XUV700 has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a huge panoramic sunroof, and the pedals finished in black. The button for the engine start/stop is on the left side of the steering wheel. Around the gear lever, it has electric parking brake with auto hold function as well, below that is the rotary dial to control the infotainment and can be program for other things, and sliding armrest with storage inside. The second row has seats split in 60:40 ratio and the third row is split in 60:40 ratio. Mahindra has fitted the XUV700 with 12 Sony 3D Speakers sound system for you to hear the best sound as possible.

So, from the outside, the MG Gloster looks very spacious, and luxurious than the XUV700, and is the same from the inside as well.

When it comes to Dimensions, the MG Gloster measures 4985mm in length, 1926mm in width, and 1867mm in height. The Mahindra XUV700 has a length of 4695mm which is shorter by 290mm, width of 1890mm that is 46mm less wide, and height of 1755mm that is shorter by 112mm. The Gloster has a wheelbase of 2950mm, ground clearance of 210mm, and fuel tank of 75 litres where as the XUV700 has a wheelbase of 2750mm that is shorter by 200mm, ground clearance of 200mm which is lower by 10mm, and fuel tank of 60 litres which is smaller by 15 litres. The Gloster has a kerb weight of 2,600 kg which is heavier by 865 kg than the 1,735 kg kerb weight of XUV700.

In Engine Options, the Gloster and the XUV700 has a turbo diesel powertrain on offer. The MG Gloster is powered by 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that pumps out 212.55 bhp and 478.5 Nm of torque mated to a 8-speed Automatic Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 13.92 kmpl and has a top speed of 177 kmph. Then there is the 2.0-litre turbo engine that pumps out 158.79 bhp and 373.5 Nm of torque mated to a 8-speed Automatic Gearbox. The Mahindra XUV700 has the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine produces 182.38 bhp and 450 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed Manual Gearbox and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with a fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl on Manual and 16.57 kmpl on the Automatic. Other than the turbo diesel engine, it has a turbo petrol powertrain on offer. In Safety, the XUV700 misses out on Hill Descent Control which the Gloster does have to offer. However, it’s worth noting that the Mahindra XUV700 has a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating while the Gloster has been not tested by the Global NCAP yet, but the Australasian NCAP did tested the Gloster and it scored 5-star NCAP safety rating. So, both are equal in safety except the Gloster takes the lead here.

The MG Gloster is priced at Rs. 38.07 lakh for the ‘Sharp 7-str 4×2’ variant and goes up to Rs. 42.38 lakh for the top ‘Savvy 7-str 4×4’ variant. As for the Mahindra XUV700, it starts at Rs. 14.01 lakh for the base ‘MX’ variant and goes up to Rs. 26.18 lakh for the top ‘AX7 Diesel Luxury Pack Automatic’ diesel variant. The price difference between the two entry-level variant is Rs. 24.06 lakh and Rs. 16.2 lakh for the top variant.

As for the warranty, Mahindra offers 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the XUV700 that can be extended up to 5 years/1,50,000 km where as the Gloster has 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period that can be extended up to 5 years/1,50,000 km.

MG Gloster vs Mahindra XUV700 – Verdict

In the end, the decision to buy which model depends totally on you, however, it is recommended to buy the MG Gloster as it’s bigger in dimensions compared to Mahindra XUV700, so it’s very spacious, luxurious, good mileage, and everyone can sit comfortably. The Mahindra XUV700 is big in dimensions giving lots of space and comfort, just slightly smaller than Gloster, and has almost the same features. Both the cars has 5-star NCAP safety rating. So, if you can opt for the Gloster, then you should go ahead and buy, otherwise, if you’re looking for an affordable spacious car, then the XUV700 is for you. Which one would you choose?
