This New Maruti 7 Seater SUV will have similar design enhancements with the upcoming electric SUV, eVitara

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to expand its SUV lineup with a three-row version of the popular Grand Vitara, codenamed Y17. Recently spied in heavy camouflage, this upcoming SUV hints at key design and feature updates. Positioned between the XL6 and Invicto, the Y17 aims to challenge rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.

Maruti Grand Vitara 7-Seater: Exterior Design Highlights

The spy shots reveal that the 7-Seater retains much of the design language of the standard Grand Vitara, including similar door shapes and window lines. However, notable changes include a longer rear overhang and potentially an extended wheelbase to accommodate the third row of seats.

Interestingly, the design draws inspiration from the upcoming eVitara, as seen in the split headlamp setup featuring Maruti’s signature three-dot LED DRLs and main headlamps integrated into the bumper. The rear sports wraparound full-width LED tail lamps, giving it a modern appeal. Camouflaged alloy wheels with a new five-spoke design further distinguish it from the regular model.

Interior Updates

Inside, the 7-Seater SUV is expected to offer a roomier cabin with seating for seven. The second row might provide both captain and bench seat options. A sneak peek into the cabin revealed a freestanding infotainment system, likely upgraded to a 10- or 11-inch touchscreen, a step up from the current 9-inch unit. The dashboard could also feature a refreshed design with premium materials for an elevated experience.

Powertrain and Platform

Built on the same Global C platform as the Grand Vitara, the new Maruti will likely share its powertrain options:

• 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine
• 1.5L Strong Hybrid Petrol Engine (Self-Charging)

These engines are expected to come with multiple transmission choices and an optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD) for select variants.

Launch and Competition

The Maruti’s new SUV will be manufactured at Maruti’s new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. This three-row SUV is likely to debut by late 2025, aligning with Maruti Suzuki’s strategy to strengthen its position in the premium SUV segment.

The Y17 will directly compete with established three-row SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.
