Kia has commenced official testing of its upcoming B-Segment SUV, the Clavis, tailored for the Indian Market. Weeks ago, it was spotted undergoing tests in Korea. The fact that Kia had trademarked “Clavis” months earlier suggests that its launch in India has long been in the pipeline.
2024 Kia Clavis: Fresh New Details!
As previously reported, the Clavis is positioned between the Seltos and the Sonet within Kia’s lineup. As seen in the image above, the SUV is heavily camouflaged, mirroring its appearance during testing in Korea. Notably, Kia is conducting trials with multiple Clavis test mules, as evidenced by the sighting of a second test mule sporting X-design alloy wheels.

Despite the camouflage, the Clavis’s boxy, tall stance is evident. It’s anticipated that the SUV will measure around 4.2 meters in length, with a wheelbase likely spanning between 2.5 to 2.6 meters. Design features include dual-tone roof rails, alloy wheels, door-mounted ORVMs, a clamshell bonnet, flared wheel arches, flush-type door handles, vertically-positioned LED tail-lamps, headlamps, and DRLs. There’s a possibility we could see the connected front full-width LED light bar.
In terms of features, the Clavis is expected to have all features from the Sonet, such as ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, powered driver seat, 360-degree surround-view camera, and an air purifier. Additionally, it’ll also carry upgrades over the Sonet, like Level 2 ADAS and a panoramic sunroof, bringing it closer to the Seltos in terms of offerings.
Regarding powertrains, while an electric version of the Clavis is in development, it’s unlikely to launch alongside the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version. The ICE lineup is expected to include a 1.2 L naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, a 1.0 L turbo petrol engine available with a 6-speed IMT and 7-speed DCT, and a 1.5 L diesel engine offered with a 6-speed manual, IMT, and automatic gearbox. Details about the EV variant are scarce, but it’s anticipated to offer a range of approximately 350 to 450 KMs.
With testing beginning in India, we can expect launch by the end of 2024 with global reveal during the festive season in September.
