This new Mahindra SUV was spotted undisguised at a charging station indicating the launch could take place sooner than we expect!

After the launch of the Mahindra BE 6 and the XEV 9e, another new Mahindra SUV was spotted completely undisguised getting charged and it was enough to reveal what that SUV is and when it’ll launch.

Design Details

The XUV3XO EV is set to replace the XUV400, with Mahindra adopting a more streamlined naming strategy to bring it in line with the recently launched ICE XUV3XO. Spy images show that test mules have started shedding their camouflage, confirming that the XUV3XO EV will closely resemble its ICE sibling. This move aligns with Mahindra’s strategy of maintaining consistent design elements across both fuel types to optimize production and brand recognition.

The exterior design tweaks include reworked upper and lower grilles on the front fascia, which are still partially camouflaged in the spy images. The EV-specific front grille likely has a closed-off design to enhance aerodynamics. There are subtle differences in the front bumpers, while the rear and side profiles remain largely unchanged. Additionally, the EV version features aero inserts on the alloy wheels to improve efficiency.

The front-fender-mounted charging port is another distinguishing feature of the XUV3XO EV, confirming Mahindra’s focus on easy charging accessibility. The test vehicle spotted in Madurai also showcases a new EV badge on the tailgate, hinting at minor visual differentiators between the ICE and EV versions.

Interior and Features

While the interior of the XUV3XO EV hasn’t been fully revealed, market reports suggest it will borrow heavily from both the ICE XUV3XO and the outgoing XUV400. Premium features are expected, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and Mahindra’s AdrenoX connectivity suite.

The EV version is also expected to offer a dual-tone black and white cabin finish, along with a drive mode selector similar to the one found in the XUV400. Additional features like a panoramic sunroof, six airbags, and a 360-degree camera will likely be carried over, ensuring a feature-rich experience for buyers.

Powertrain

Mahindra is expected to carry over the powertrain options from the XUV400 to the XUV3XO EV. The current XUV400 offers two battery packs: a 34.5 kWh option with an approximate range of 375 km and a larger 39.4 kWh pack capable of delivering up to 456 km on a single charge. Both battery options power a single electric motor driving the front wheels, generating 150 PS of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque.

While there is no official confirmation from Mahindra about any enhancements to these specifications, it’s possible that the automaker could fine-tune the XUV3XO EV’s powertrain for better efficiency or performance. Retaining these battery packs would allow Mahindra to streamline production and keep costs in check.

Expected Price

The Mahindra XUV3XO EV is expected to be more affordable than the XUV400, which starts at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). By reducing the vehicle’s size and aligning its design with the ICE XUV3XO, Mahindra is likely to target a broader audience. This pricing strategy positions the XUV3XO EV as a strong competitor to the Tata Nexon EV, one of India’s best-selling electric SUVs.

With its modern design, practical range options, and competitive pricing, the Mahindra XUV3XO EV aims to strengthen the company’s foothold in the growing EV market. More details, including official specifications and pricing, are expected to be revealed closer to the launch, likely in early 2025.
