Mahindra has been spied testing the Thar 5 Door in India, but this time it wasn’t a top or mid-spec variant, but a base variant. Let’s break down what the base trim will be getting.
Mahindra Thar 5 Door Base Variant: All Details!
The base variant of the Thar 5 Door can be seen with steel wheels which are likely 18-inches. Other than that, the front profile features round headlamps which will be halogen with LED DRLs, bumpers design will be more or less the same. The side profile is camouflaged but still it the rear doors has c-pillar mounted doors, side step up, and no roof rails on top. The rear profile will sport halogen tail-lamps, door-mounted steel wheels, and micro-antenna on top.

The inside will see changes like instead of 10.25-inch infotainment in top variant, the base may sport the 7-inch Infotainment System along with fabric upholstery for the cabin; manual AC controls, analog instrument cluster with 4-spoke steering in front of it. The centre console may not have the armrest as well as for the driver seat. Moreover, it’s possible the driver seat may not get height adjustment function. The rear section will not get centre armrests, AC vents, and headrests for middle passenger.

As for the Engine Options, it’ll sport the 2.2 L Diesel and 2.0 L Turbo Petrol. The base variant will have 4×2 drive-type with likely 6 Speed Manual Gearbox option only.
In Safety features, expect 2 Airbags, Rear Parking Sensors, Hill Assist, Front Disc Brakes, ABS with EBD, etc.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door is all set to launch on 15th August, 2024 and will compete with the likes of Maruti Jimny 5 Door and upcoming Force Gurkha 5-Door which is expected to launch later this month.
