Mahindra Thar has been one of the most iconic nameplates for Mahindra Auto, playing a major role in redefining the lifestyle SUV segment in India. Once considered a niche, the segment has grown rapidly, largely thanks to the Thar’s success. Now, after nearly five years since its current generation was launched, Mahindra is gearing up to introduce the Thar 3-door facelift. Spy shots of the updated model have surfaced online, hinting at cosmetic and feature upgrades, while retaining its rugged charm.
The first spy images show a camouflaged Thar 3-door undergoing testing. While the front design is not entirely visible, it is expected that the facelift could borrow styling elements from the Thar Roxx edition, including a revised front grille, circular LED headlights, and a new front bumper with LED fog lamps. The rear is likely to feature a redesigned bumper and new LED tail lamp signature. The side profile looks largely similar, though finer details such as subtle tweaks to the alloy wheel design could be part of the update.
Inside the cabin, Mahindra is expected to enhance the premium feel. The Thar facelift could adopt features introduced with the Thar Roxx, such as a large 10.25-inch floating infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and AdrenoX connected car technology. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a soft-touch dashboard could also be offered. Other possible additions include keyless entry, push-button start, request sensors on doors, a powered driver’s seat, front ventilated seats, leatherette upholstery, rear disc brakes, and possibly a sunroof. Features like Level-2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera may also be available, bringing it in line with newer Mahindra SUVs.
Engine Options and Launch Timeline
Under the hood, the Thar facelift is expected to continue with the same powertrain options. This includes the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 117 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generating 150 bhp and 320 Nm, and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel unit delivering 130 bhp and 300 Nm. Both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission choices are likely to continue, with 2WD and 4WD configurations on offer.
The updated Thar 3-door could make its official debut towards the end of 2025 or in early 2026. With the inclusion of new features and technologies, the price of the facelifted model might see a slight increase compared to the current version.
Final Thoughts
The Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift is shaping up to offer a refreshed design and more modern features, without compromising on its iconic off-road capabilities. As testing continues, more details are expected to emerge in the coming months, making this one of the most anticipated SUV updates in the Indian market.
