This new Premium MPV comes loaded with way more features to give competitions to the likes of Toyota HyCross.
Kia has officially unveiled the Carens Clavis in India, positioned as a premium variant of the standard Carens MPV. The Clavis is aimed at customers looking for a more upscale experience, with key rivals including the Maruti XL6 and Hyundai Alcazar. Bookings will open tonight at midnight (00:00 hours).
Kia Carens Clavis – Design and Features
The Clavis distinguishes itself from the standard Carens with a more SUV-inspired design, including a refreshed front end featuring Star Map LED DRLs with integrated turn signals and Ice-Cube MFR LED headlamps. The Clavis also gets satin chrome-finished skid plates, star-patterned 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and Star Map LED connected tail lamps at the rear.
Inside, the Clavis offers a dual 12.3-inch digital panoramic display panel for the infotainment and instrument cluster, replacing the 10.25-inch screens of the Carens. The interior is further enhanced with a four-way powered driver’s seat, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof (unlike the single-pane sunroof of Carens), ventilated front seats, a Bose premium 8-speaker sound system, a smart pure air purifier with AQI display, and an infotainment/temperature swap switch. Kia Connect is also updated with features like remote window control, find my car with surround view monitor, and multilingual VR commands.
Safety has been upgraded, with Kia Clavis featuring ADAS Level 2 with 20 autonomous features, including blind spot collision warning, 360° camera, smart cruise control with stop-and-go, and driver attention warning. The Clavis comes with 18 standard safety features, compared to the 15 in the standard Carens, including six airbags, ESC, VSM, BAS, HAC, DBC, ABS, and all-wheel disc brakes.
Powertrain Options
Engine choices remain similar to the Carens, but a new 6-speed manual transmission has been introduced for the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The engine lineup includes:
- 1.5L NA Petrol: 113 bhp, 144 Nm, 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT
- 1.5L Turbo Petrol (GDi): 158 bhp, 253 Nm, 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT
- 1.5L Diesel (CRDi): 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT
The Clavis will be available in eight monotone colour options, including an exclusive Ivory Silver Gloss. However, it misses out on the Intense Red shade offered with the standard Carens.
