New Punch Rival will come with massive features such as 12.9-inch Infotainment System and Driver Assistance Features!

Hyundai India is gearing up to refresh its popular subcompact SUV, the Exter, with a mid-cycle update expected to launch between March – April 2026. Recent spy shots of camouflaged test mules have surfaced, confirming that the Korean carmaker is putting the final touches on what promises to be a tech-heavy upgrade for the micro-SUV.

Since its 2023 debut, the Exter has been a favorite for city dwellers. The 2026 model aims to maintain that momentum by focusing on “meaningful improvements” rather than a total redesign.

Refreshed Design and Interior

HYUNDAI EXTER FACELIFT

While the overall boxy silhouette and signature H-shaped LED DRLs are likely to stay, the 2026 Exter facelift will feature several cosmetic tweaks to keep it feeling fresh. The test mules reveal a redesigned front grille and updated bumpers, though they remain heavily hidden under wraps. A new design for the 15-inch alloy wheels has also been spotted, adding a touch of modern flair to the side profile.

The most significant changes are expected inside the cabin. Hyundai is likely to introduce its next-generation infotainment system, potentially making the Exter the first mass-market car in India to run on Android Automotive OS. This system would feature a large 12.9-inch touchscreen paired with a 9.9-inch digital driver’s display. Unlike standard smartphone mirroring, this standalone software allows for direct app downloads and seamless Over-the-Air (OTA) map updates.

Engine and Performance

The 2026 Exter is expected to retain its reliable powertrain options, catering to buyers who prioritize refinement and low ownership costs:

  • 1.2 L Kappa Petrol: Produces 82 bhp and 114 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5 Speed manual or a 5 Speed AMT.
  • 1.2 L Hy-CNG Duo: A dual-cylinder CNG option offering 68.5 bhp and 95.2 Nm, designed to provide better boot space than traditional single-cylinder setups.

Comfort and Safety

Hyundai plans to elevate the in-cabin experience by adding features typically found in higher-segment cars. To better compete with the Tata Punch, the 2026 Exter may include ventilated front seats, improved seat ergonomics, and both front and rear armrests to reduce fatigue on long drives. Other practical touches likely to be included are faster USB Type-C charging ports and rear sunshades.

Safety remains a core focus for the brand. The current model already sets a high bar with six airbags and electronic stability control as standard. The 2026 update might build on this foundation by introducing basic driver-assistance features or a revised variant strategy—possibly following the new HX-based trim hierarchy – to make advanced safety more accessible across the lineup.

Expected Price

Given the substantial tech upgrades, a marginal price increase is expected across the range. The current Exter is priced between Rs. 5.64 lakh and Rs. 9.61 lakh (ex-showroom), and the 2026 model could see a jump of roughly Rs. 20,000 – 40,000. It will continue to rival the Tata Punch which recently received a big facelift update.
