This new performance hatchback will launch via CBU with first lot of 150 units already booked the second bookings went live!

Volkswagen is all set to launch the much-awaited Golf GTI in India, with the official debut scheduled for May 26, 2025. Pre-bookings for the performance hatchback began on May 5 via the brand’s official portal, and the initial batch of 150 units was fully booked almost immediately. Due to the strong demand, Volkswagen has temporarily paused new bookings. Deliveries for those who secured their slot are expected to begin as early as June 2025.

Engine, Power, and Performance

The India-bound Golf GTI is the facelifted Mk8.5 version and comes via the CBU (completely built-up) route. Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). The motor delivers 265 PS and 370 Nm of peak torque, enabling the hatch to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 5.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph, underlining its performance credentials.

Exterior Styling and Design Updates

Visually, the Volkswagen Golf GTI stands out with sporty upgrades over the regular Golf. It features matrix LED headlamps, a wider honeycomb grille with X-shaped fog lamps, dual chrome exhaust tips, and a roof-mounted spoiler. GTI-specific badging is seen on the tailgate and just below the ORVMs. The hatchback rides on standard 18-inch alloy wheels, with the option to upgrade to 19-inch wheels. Other standout elements include red-painted brake calipers and smoked 3D-effect LED tail lamps with dynamic turn indicators.

Interior Features and Technology

Inside the cabin, the Golf GTI offers a premium, driver-focused setup. It includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with modern connectivity features and ChatGPT-powered voice control. The 10.25-inch digital driver display comes with GTI-specific graphics, and a heads-up display enhances the driving experience. Additional features include a leather-wrapped GTI sports steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, and a 7-speaker audio system.

Expected Price and Rival

Volkswagen has confirmed that the official pricing will be revealed at the launch event on May 26. However, early estimates suggest that the Golf GTI could be priced around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will go up against the likes of the Mini Cooper S JCW in the Indian market.
