New Sports Car from Volkswagen has been spotted for the first time in India. It’s capable of sprinting from 0-100 in just 5.9 Seconds!

Volkswagen Golf GTI has been spotted in India for the first time, ahead of its expected launch in the April-June period. The hot hatch will be available in limited numbers, with only 250 units arriving via the CBU (completely built unit) route. It is expected to be priced from Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Golf GTI Spied in India

A recently surfaced spy shot showcases the India-spec Golf GTI in Moonstone Grey, featuring a sporty stance with a lower ride height than the standard Golf. The hot hatch gets 19-inch five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, all-wheel disc brakes, and striking red brake calipers. The ‘GTI’ badging is prominently placed on the front door, while smoked LED taillamps and a roof spoiler enhance its aggressive appeal.

Exterior and Interior Features

The Volkswagen Golf GTI features an aggressive yet bold design. It comes equipped with Matrix LED headlights, a red-accented grille with a centrally positioned VW logo, and a large honeycomb-patterned air dam with integrated daytime running lights. The rear design includes a sporty diffuser and a dual exhaust setup.

Inside, the Golf GTI sports an all-black cabin theme with tartan-patterned sports seats, metallic pedals, and a GTI-branded three-spoke steering wheel with red accents. The dashboard houses a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Volkswagen’s latest interface, crisper graphics, and ChatGPT-enabled voice assistance. A GTI-specific fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, wireless charging, auto AC, and two USB-C ports further enhance the cabin experience.

Performance and Safety Features

Powering the Golf GTI is Volkswagen’s renowned EA888 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing 262 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels. The hot hatch can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

For safety, the Golf GTI is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes, and Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), ensuring a high level of protection for passengers.

Expected Price and Rivals

With an expected starting price of Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volkswagen Golf GTI will compete with the Mini Cooper S in India. Given its limited availability and CBU import status, the Golf GTI is set to be an exclusive offering for enthusiasts looking for a high-performance hatchback.
