BYD M6: Exterior and Interior Upgrades
The BYD M6 brings subtle yet impactful cosmetic changes compared to the outgoing e6. Up front, the M6 now features new full-LED headlamps connected by a satin trim with BYD lettering. The revised bumper includes more contoured air vents with chrome accents. At the rear, the M6 sports larger wraparound tail-lamps with enhanced LED detailing, along with a tweaked bumper that also receives chrome inserts. A new set of alloy wheels completes the exterior updates.
Inside, the M6 introduces a larger 12.8-inch floating touchscreen, an upgrade from the previous 10.1-inch unit in the e6. In Indonesia, it gets analog instrument cluster with a TFT Display showing all the necessary information; however it’s possible, the Indian-spec version may get fully digital cluster. The dashboard design remains largely unchanged, but the center console now includes two wireless charging pads, updated switchgear, and a new drive selector lever. The M6 also brings a redesigned steering wheel, although the analogue dials for the instrument cluster are retained.
The India-spec M6 is expected to come with 6- or 7-seater configurations. Other notable features include automatic climate control, 360-degree cameras, cruise control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a powered tailgate.
Specs, Price & Launch
Internationally, the BYD M6 is available with two battery pack options: a 55.4 kWh unit offering a claimed range of 420 km, and a 71.8 kWh unit with a 530 km range. The smaller battery variant produces 160.77 bhp, while the larger one offers 201.2 bhp, both with a torque output of 310 Nm. In India, the M6 is likely to come with the 71.8 kWh battery, which may offer a slight range improvement over the e6. However, the introduction of the smaller battery option in India remains uncertain.
The current BYD e6 is priced at Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, and the BYD M6 is expected to come with a slight premium, likely sporting Rs. 29.50 Lakh Starting Price Tag. The M6 could be launched during the festive season, a strategic period for automotive launches in India.
Conclusion
With the launch of the BYD M6, the company is not just updating its product lineup but also setting a new benchmark in India’s electric MPV market. The M6’s enhanced design, advanced features, and improved performance are poised to attract a broader audience, further solidifying BYD’s position as a key player in the country’s growing electric vehicle segment. As the festive season approaches, the M6 could very well be a game-changer for consumers looking for a practical yet innovative electric MPV.
