New-Gen 2024 Kia Carnival Facelift (Expected: 2024)
Kia India is launching the next generation Kia Carnival which basically is an facelift update in the Korean market, but in India it’ll be launched as an New Generation update. It’s almost like a home on wheels because of how much comfortable the seats are in this MPV. It has four rows with captain seats in second-row which are similar to Kia EV9. Kia offers the Carnival with a V6 Engine internationally, expect the 2.2 L Diesel Engine to be offered, while it’s possible Kia could replace the V6 Engine in India with the 2.0 L Turbo Petrol Engine.
The Carnival has features like dual 10.25-inch display, ventilated and heated seats, a single-pane sunroof, and a panoramic sunroof, 360 Surround View Camera, Level 2 ADAS, and so much more. The Carnival doesn’t have any direct rivals as it’s the only MPV in the segment, and it’ll continue to be the best-selling MPV in its own category. We expect to learn more about the new India-bound Carnival in the coming weeks.
Kia EV9 (Expected: Late 2024)
Kia earlier this year had showcased the EV9 at the Auto Expo 2023 in January, and then few months later launched their flagship three-row SUV in South Korea, and other markets. Kia confirmed that its looking to expand the reach of EV9 to other international markets, and one of them confirmed to launch is India. The EV9 measures more than 5 Meters in Length, and is built on their Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Kia claims the EV9 on a single charge can travel up to 541 KMs, and is offered in two variants.
The Standard trim comes with 76.1 kWh battery pack with a single motor powering the rear wheels and produce 214.5 BHP and 350 NM of torque and can sprint from 0 – 100 KMPH in 8.2 seconds at a 185 KMPH top speed. Then there is the long range trim with 99.8 kWh battery pack and offers two drivetype options – Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) which has a single motor producing 201 BHP and 350 NM torque and does 0 – 100 KMPH in 9.4 Seconds. Another Option is the All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) which has dual motor setup and generates 380 BHP and 600 NM of torque and accelerates from 0 – 100 KMPH in 5.3 seconds at 200 KMPH top speed.
The Kia EV9 was tested at the European NCAP (ENCAP) and scored 5 Star Safety Rating, Hence, when it launches in India, Kia would likely send the EV9 to the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) and since the BNCAP and GNCAP (Global NCAP) are similar, the EV9 could scored 5 Star Safety Rating as well.
Kia Clavis (Expected: Late 2024)
So, apparently, Kia thinks that the gap between the Sonet and the Seltos can only be filled by the Made-for-India SUV, Clavis. It’s being positioned as rugged, tall-stance lifestyle SUV with boxy design. The Clavis will be getting multiple powertrains like the 1.2 L NA Petrol, 1.0 L Turbo Petrol, and the 1.5 L Diesel Engine. It’ll have multiple gearbox options – 5 Speed MT, 6 Speed IMT / AT / MT, and 7 Speed DCT.
Since, its position above the Sonet, it’ll have features like 360 Surround View Camera, ventilated seats, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 10.25-inch dual displays – Infotainment System, and Digital Instrument Cluster, Air Purifier, LED Projector Headlamps, Powered Driver Seat, Level 2 ADAS, and so much more.
It’s possible the Clavis could be inspired from their own lifestyle SUV called the Kia Ray (sold in South Korea). It could feature full-folding seats for all the seats including the driver seat. When you decide to go camping and reach your destination, you fully fold all the seats to make it your bed, and take rest. Moreover, it could sliding doors for the SUV making it the only SUV to have this feature.
Kia is looking to create its own segment again with the Clavis and would have no rivals on launch. The Clavis will also spawn an EV powertrain. The Clavis can be launched by the end of 2024.
