The state of roads in India is gradually improving, but one critical aspect that still requires substantial attention is the driving culture. Instances of impatient drivers and riders neglecting lane discipline, traffic signals, and showing disregard for other road users are still prevalent. A recent incident in Karnataka highlights this incident, where a speeding motorcyclist with a pillion rider failed to notice a turning bus, resulting in a collision.
Bike Crashes into the bus: What Happened?
The video, shared by Times Now on Instagram, captured a group of bikers on a weekend trip in Kunigal, Tumakuru district. Riding on relatively empty roads, the bikers seemed to have accelerated due to the lack of traffic. The footage, recorded by another biker in the group, showed the left lane occupied by the videographer, while the biker with a pillion was in the overtaking lane near the median’s metal barriers.

As a state transport corporation bus approached from the opposite direction and initiated a turn at an intersection, the biker in the left lane managed to slow down. However, the biker in the overtaking lane, hindered by the metal barriers, failed to notice the turning bus until it was too late. Despite applying brakes, the high speed made effective evasion impossible. The motorcycle collided between the bus’s rear wheels and rear footboard, causing the fairing and plastic panels to shatter upon impact, throwing the rider and pillion away from the bike.
Remarkably, both the rider and pillion were wearing proper riding gear, which played a crucial role in minimizing injuries. Despite the severity of the accident, they escaped with only minor injuries. The significance of safety gear, including helmets and jackets, becomes evident when observing the high speed at which the biker was riding. Without such protective measures, the consequences could have been far more severe.
Riding a bike safely is super important. Make sure to wear protective gear like a helmet, gloves, jacket, and good shoes. Follow traffic rules, don’t go too fast, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Check your bike regularly for brakes, lights, and tires. Pay attention to the road, avoid distractions, and use signals. Be careful and watch out for possible dangers. Being a safe rider helps keep everyone on the road safe.
