Maruti Suzuki is bringing 1.5 L Diesel engine for Ciaz facelift next month which will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.This new 1.5-litre Diesel engine which has more torque than Honda City and has excellent mileage figures will find it’s way to New Ertiga, S-Cross and Brezza 2019 in a few months of time.
Maruti Ciaz Facelift was launched last year in August with cosmetic changes and also with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine.This new unit which made it’s way to New Ertiga in November 2018 churns out 105 PS of power with 138 NM of torque at 4,400 RPM.At that time, it was available with this new petrol engine and old Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel unit with hybrid technology.Maruti has been working for a long time on new 1.5-litre Diesel engine that would be offered as a replacement for ageing 1.3-litre diesel unit.Maruti will first introduce this new engine in Ciaz facelift probably next month and after that in other Maruti Suzuki cars including New Ertiga, S-Cross as well as Maruti Brezza 2019.
Coming to the specifications of this motor, new DDiS 225 engine by Maruti which is a 4-cylinder unit makes 95 PS @ 4000 RPM and 225 NM of torque at 1500 – 2500 RPM.Fuel efficiency of the unit is 26.82 kmpl.The 1.5 L diesel model for Ciaz Facelift will be offered only in Delta, Zeta and top Alpha model.It will not make it’s way to base Sigma trim of Ciaz.No changes whatsoever will be made.The engine will get dual flywheel that will not only lower down the vibration but will also make the engine extremely smooth and shifting gears would be much smoother than the 1.3 L diesel unit.

However, two things that needs to be remember is that neither this engine will make way to small Maruti cars like Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis as the difference between BS-VI petrol and diesel models will be around Rs. 2.5 Lakhs.For small cars, Maruti will only offer petrol hybrids.Secondly, this new Diesel engine will not replace the 1.3-litre DDiS unit initially on Ciaz.The price difference between 1.3 L diesel model of Ciaz and 1.5 L diesel variant will be around Rs. 50,000.
