Design and Powertrain
The Citroen Basalt’s design stays true to its initial sketches, with matte plastic cladding replacing the typical gloss black, giving it a distinctive edge. Built on the same platform as the C3 Aircross, the Basalt shares a familiar front fascia but stands out with the introduction of projector headlamps—a first for Citroen’s C-Cubed models in India.
The vehicle is characterized by squared-off wheel arch cladding, a pinched window line, and a smooth roofline. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and retains the pull-type door handles from the C3 Aircross. At the rear, a contoured tailgate, 3D-effect halogen tail lamps, and a dual-tone bumper in black and silver further enhance its unique appearance.
Inside, the Citroen Basalt receives several upgrades that elevate its comfort and functionality. The new HVAC panel features digital readouts and toggle switches, complemented by automatic AC—an improvement over the manual AC in the C3 Aircross. Other enhancements include a larger front armrest with built-in storage, restyled rear headrests, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench seat.
The boot offers a generous 470 litres of capacity, and rear AC vents ensure added comfort. High-spec variants boast a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch all-digital instrument cluster, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, and connected car technology. The interior design is further refined with Citroen’s C-Cubed motifs, combining gloss black and textured surfaces to create a premium atmosphere.
Features
The Citroen Basalt is loaded with advanced features, including automatic climate control, rear AC, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, and a wireless charging pad. The vehicle also comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and adjustable under-thigh support for added comfort. Safety is prioritized with 6 airbags as standard, a rear parking camera, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, a manual day/night IRVM, and traction control.
Our Verdict
Citroen’s aggressive pricing strategy for the Basalt Coupe SUV, starting at Rs. 7.99 Lakhs, positions it as a formidable challenger to the segment leader, Hyundai Creta. By offering the Basalt in three variants—You, Plus, and Max—with 1.2 L Petrol and 1.2 L Turbo Petrol engine options, Citroen caters to a broad audience. The Basalt’s distinct design, advanced features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, and safety elements such as 6 airbags and traction control, combined with its competitive pricing, underscore Citroen’s intent to disrupt the segment and increase its market share.
