Citroen is set to launch its fifth model, the Citroen Basalt, under the Stellantis brand in India this Friday, August 9. Originally planned to debut alongside the Curvv, the Basalt’s launch was delayed by a few days. This coupe SUV stands out with its unique design and will be one of only two coupe models in the mid-size SUV segment in the Indian market.

The Citroen Basalt’s production model closely follows its initial sketches, featuring matte plastic cladding instead of gloss black. Sharing its platform with the C3 Aircross, it showcases a similar front fascia with projector headlamps, marking a first for a C-Cubed model in India. The Basalt’s design includes squared-off wheel arch cladding, a pinched window line, smooth roofline, 17-inch alloy wheels, and pull-type door handles from the C3 Aircross. At the rear, it features a contoured tailgate, 3D-effect halogen tail lamps, and a dual-tone bumper in black and silver.

Inside, the Citroen Basalt boasts several upgrades, including a new HVAC panel with digital readouts and toggle switches, and automatic AC replacing the manual AC of the C3 Aircross. It also features a larger front armrest with storage, restyled rear headrests, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench seat. The boot capacity is 470 litres, and there are rear AC vents. High-spec variants come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch all-digital instrument cluster, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, and connected car technology. The interior design is enhanced with Citroen’s C-Cubed design motifs, mixing gloss black and textured surfaces for a premium look and feel.
The Citroen Basalt is packed with advanced features such as automatic climate control, rear AC, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a wireless charging pad, 16-inch alloy wheels, and adjustable under-thigh support. Safety features include 6 airbags as standard, a rear parking camera, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, a manual day and night IRVM, and traction control.Citroen is expected to price the Basalt Coupe SUV between Rs. 11 lakhs to Rs. 16 lakhs, making it a competitive choice in the mid-size SUV market.
