In October 2024, MG Motor India achieved a significant milestone by selling a record-breaking 7,045 units, marking the company’s highest monthly sales figure since its entry into the Indian market.
One of the standout aspects of MG Motor India’s October sales performance was the overwhelming contribution of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), which made up 70% of total sales. This shift highlights MG’s strong commitment to electrification and consumer adoption of NEVs, a remarkable accomplishment in a market where traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles still hold sway.
The latest sales report shows a significant 37.92% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to the 5,108 units sold in October 2023. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the brand saw an impressive 53.55% increase from the 4,588 units sold in September 2024, translating to a volume increase of 1,937 units YoY and 2,457 units MoM.
MG’s focus on NEVs was bolstered by the success of the Windsor EV, the brand’s latest Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV). In October, MG Motor India sold 3,116 units of the Windsor EV, an impressive feat underpinned by high demand and attractive pricing facilitated by MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plans. This innovative model received a record-breaking 15,000 bookings on its opening day, affirming the Windsor EV’s appeal among Indian consumers.
While MG Motor’s NEV sales surged, sales of its ICE models, such as the Hector, saw a decline. Hector sales nearly halved YoY and dropped by 23.93% MoM in September 2024, a shift likely influenced by the rising appeal of EVs and consumer enthusiasm for the Windsor EV.
MG Motor India’s October 2024 sales performance demonstrates the brand’s alignment with both Indian and global automotive trends toward electrification. With 70% of its sales from NEVs, MG has set a benchmark in the Indian market, underscoring the potential of EV adoption.
MG Motor India’s strategic growth, driven by the success of the Windsor EV and the innovative BaaS model, serves as a model for other manufacturers in the EV segment.
