Kia will soon be launching the facelift of Seltos in India on July 4th and once it launches it’ll rival the Hyundai Creta. Therefore, it only makes sense to compare the two SUVs against each other to find that if the Seltos facelift is any better than the current Hyundai Creta.

As you can see at the front of the Creta, it has square-shaped grille with top edges curved and is finished in chrome with four horizontal line across the grille. Split LED DRLS with tri-square shaped LED lights with fog lamps and indicators below them and the bumpers are finished in faux silver skid plate. Moving to the side, it’s simple looking with roof rails on top and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. At the rear, the LED taillamps looks similar to the split headlamps at the front.

Kia has updated the Seltos with a bigger grille with extended LED DRLs on it, cuts and creases on the bonnet for a sporty and aggressive look, four LED cubes positioned vertically acting as Fog lamps, the bumpers are of faux silver skid plate, and just above the bumpers it has rectangle panel for ADAS. Moving to the side, the body has few cuts which looks the same as pre-facelift Seltos, thin wheel cladding for the 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails on the top, chrome line on the bottom of the window lamp that extends till the D-pillar. At the rear, it has L-shaped Caren inspired LED taillamps connected by LED light bar with KIA logo at the center, powered tailgate, and small spoiler on the roof.

From the inside, the Creta has a 10.25-inch infotainment system placed below the AC vent and at the sides it has vertically positioned AC vents. The Creta does not have the dual-tone theme dashboard option unfortunately. It has multi-function four-spoke steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, the pedals finished in silver color, and a huge panoramic sunroof. Around the gear lever which is designed like the one in Planes or similar to the one’s in Audi, it has rotary dials for drive modes, button for electric parking brake with auto hold function, and for the ventilated seat . It has two USB-A ports at the front, and two at the rear. The rear seats has 60:40 split which can be reclined as well.

As for the Seltos Facelift, it has one big display unit with two 10.25-inch displays – one for digital instrument cluster, and for infotainment system, and has new layout for the automatic climate control. It has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, the pedals is finished in black, and now it has panoramic sunroof. Around the gear lever, it has buttons for ventilated seats, wireless charging pad, rotary dial for driving modes, two USB Charging ports at front and rear, electric parking brake with auto hold function, and sun-blinds for all the windows. Moving to the rear, the seats are split in 60:40 ratio that can be reclined as well, ambient lighting and it has 8-speaker Bose Premium sound system.

So, from the outside, and inside, the Seltos facelift looks way better than the Hyundai Creta as with the refreshed design from the outside, and little from the inside, it feels really spacious and premium than the Creta.

When it comes to dimensions, the Creta measures 4300mm in length, 1790mm in width, and 1635mm in height. The Seltos Facelift has a length of 4315mm which is 15mm longer, 1800mm in width that is 10mm wider, and height of 1645mm that is taller by 10mm. The Creta has a wheelbase of 2610mm that is 20mm shorter, ground clearance of 190mm which is the same as Seltos facelift, boot space is the same as Seltos, i.e, 433 litres, and the fuel tank of 50 litres is the same for both SUVs.

In Engine Options, both the Creta and the Seltos Facelift has a non-turbo petrol powertrain. The Hyundai Creta is powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed Manual and IVT (or CVT) Gearbox with 17 kmpl fuel efficiency. The Seltos Facelift is powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Manual Gearbox and IVT Gearbox (or CVT) with fuel efficiency of 16.8 kmpl.

Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos Facelift has one more engine other than the Petrol engine and that is the diesel engine. The Hyundai Creta has the 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of torque paired toa 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox. In return, this engine gives 23 kmpl fuel efficiency. The Seltos facelift has the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 113.48 bhp and 250 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed iMT Gearbox with 21 kmpl fuel efficiency and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl.

It is possible that Kia will launch the Seltos facelift with another powertrain which is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out 157 bhp and 253 Nm of torque mated to 6-speed Manual, and 7-speed DCT Gearbox. Kia could launch this engine to comply with the RDE and E20 norms.

The Hyundai Creta misses out on Front Parking Sensors, 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS features. The Seltos Facelift has all these features including ADAS with Level 2 features like  Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Collision Detection, Auto High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Rear Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and few more.

The Hyundai Creta currently is priced at Rs. 10.87 lakh for the base petrol ‘E’ variant and goes up to Rs. 19.20 lakh for the top ‘SX (O) Knight Edition DT Diesel Automatic’ variant. The Facelift Seltos is expected to start at Rs. 11 lakh for the entry-level variant.

As for the warranty, Hyundai is offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for Creta and can be extended up to 7 years/1,00,000 km and Kia is offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the Seltos facelift and can be extended up to 5 years/1,00,000 km.

In the end, the decision to buy which model depends totally on you, however, it is recommended to wait for some time and opt for the Kia Seltos Facelift as it’s got much better features than the Creta, it’s bigger in dimension than Creta giving more space and comfort for passengers, and the performance is the kind of better than the Creta. However, Hyundai Creta is good SUV as well with almost the same features, dimensions, and performance as the Seltos. So, if you’re willing to wait for the upcoming Seltos Facelift, then you should wait, otherwise you can go ahead and buy the Hyundai Creta. Which one would you choose?
