Hyundai Motors India reports decline in Year-on-Year (YoY) Sales while reports growth in Month-on-Month (MoM) Sales!
Hyundai Motors revealed the sales for the month of September 2024 and it reports a mixed sales when compared to both YoY and MoM. The newly launched Alcazar that launched last month is the only model that reports growth YoY and MoM wise.

Hyundai September 2024 Year-on-Year (YoY) Sales
In September 2024, Hyundai Motors India reported sales of 51,101 units, reflecting a 5.67% drop compared to the 54,172 units sold in September 2023. Despite the overall decline, the Creta emerged as a key performer with 15,902 units sold, showcasing a strong 25.05% YoY growth from the 12,717 units sold last year. This growth reinforces the Creta’s popularity in the compact SUV segment with recently it getting the Knight Edition to further boost its sales straight to 1st position.
Meanwhile, the Venue witnessed a notable YoY decline of 15.94%, with sales dropping to 10,259 units from 12,204 units in September 2023. Recently, the Venue received new affordable variants which appeals to the consumers. The Exter, a relatively new model, also experienced a significant 20.11% YoY decline, selling 6,908 units compared to 8,647 units in the previous year. This indicates a cooling demand for some of Hyundai’s smaller SUVs.
Hyundai’s smaller models faced mixed numbers, with the Grand i10 Nios seeing a minor 2.30% YoY decrease with 5,103 units sold, while the Aura bucked the trend with a 14.41% YoY growth, selling 4,462 units in September 2024 versus 3,900 units in the same period last year. On the other hand, the i20 struggled with a steep 31.68% drop, selling just 4,428 units compared to 6,481 in September 2023.
The Alcazar showed a strong performance, growing 37.18% YoY with 2,712 units sold compared to 1,977 units in September 2023.The Alcazar Facelift launched last year which saw it getting major redesign and inclusion of new features that will help give tough competition to its rivals. The Verna, however, struggled, witnessing a 54.10% YoY decline and selling only 1,198 units, compared to 2,610 units in the same month last year.
At the lower end of the sales is the Tucson saw a 58.65% YoY decline, selling 98 units in September 2024 compared to 237 units in the previous year. The electric Ioniq 5 continued to face challenges, with an 82.39% YoY decline, recording only 31 units in September 2024 versus 176 units in September 2023.

Hyundai September 2024 Month-on-Month (MoM) Sales
Compared to its previous month, August 2024, the month-on-month overall sales of Hyundai’s increased by 3.08%, up from 49,525 units in August 2024. The Creta saw a slight 5.41% MoM decline, selling 860 fewer units in September compared to August’s 16,762 units. On the flip side, the Venue recorded an 11.44% MoM increase, selling 1,174 more units, with September sales at 10,259 compared to August’s 9,085.
The Exter showed modest growth, rising by 4.00% MoM, with 276 more units sold in September. The Grand i10 Nios faced a 5.13% MoM drop, selling 5,103 units, down from 5,365 in August. The Aura posted a 3.54% MoM growth, selling 158 more units than in the previous month.
The i20 continued its downward trend, recording a 10.95% MoM decline, selling 485 fewer units than in August.
The Alcazar registered a massive 59.26% MoM growth, selling 2,712 units in September compared to just 1,105 units in August 2024.
Sales for the Verna remained relatively flat with just a 0.33% MoM growth, while both the Tucson and Ioniq 5 showed significant MoM declines, with 27.55% and 29.03% drops, respectively.

Hyundai Motors India continues to dominate the SUV segment with the Creta and Alcazar showing robust growth in September 2024. However, other models like the Venue, Exter, and i20 have faced significant YoY declines. The premium offerings, particularly the Tucson and Ioniq 5, have struggled to maintain their sales momentum, reflecting the challenges in the premium market space.
