Hyundai is likely to give it’s next sub-compact SUV the name ‘Styx’.However, as of now there is no conformity whether they use the term even for the global markets.For India, they will continue with Styx only.While it is likely to be called ‘Carlino’ in the American markets.
Hyundai Styx – SPECIFICATIONS
Since Styx is a sub-compact SUV, it will be under 4-metre in length.Ground clearance of the SUV will be 195 mm.It will measure 3,995 mm in length, with a width of 1,780 mm and height of 1,630 mm.Wheelbase of the sub-compact SUV will be 2,520 mm.16-inch alloys will be on offer for the top variants.With 350 litres of boot space, it would not be incorrect to say that is scores good in dimensions front.

Hyundai Styx world debut is in New York Auto Show in April 2019.After the auto show, Styx will be launched in India in May 2019.Styx will be sold through Hyundai dealerships.Bookings for the compact SUV will start May beginning onwards.Deliveries as well as test drive vehicles will be made available from end of May 2019.

Hyundai Styx exterior is quite similar to the QXi car showcased at Auto Expo.However, when it will launch, it will get prominent and slimmer elements.At the first glance, it appears to be baby Creta but is slightly boxy in shape.At the front, like the Harrier, it gets LED DRLs on the upper side which joins Hyundai’s cascading grille.Projector headlamps with fog lamps will be under the DRLs.Large intakes are provided in lower lip.Sharp edges will be seen on bonnet as well as sides as well.On the rear, faux skid plates will be provided along with stylish rectangular shaped LED tail lamps.

Hyundai has recently updated it’s Elite i20 and Creta lineup with major features.Hyundai Styx aka qxi is likely to derive wireless charging from Elite i20.This first-in segment feature will help Styx to standout from its rivals.If Hyundai provides ventilated seats then it would surely give an upper hand to Styx over Nexon, Ecosport and XUV300.Not only this, Hyundai will also load it’s Styx sub-compact SUV with comfort equipments like Cruise Controls, Tilt and Telescopic Steering, 60:40 split type rear seats.Front and rear armrest with storage spots will be on offer.Push start/stop buttons, height adjustable driver seats, sunroof, 16-inch diamond cut alloys, voice recognition will be on offer.

Hyundai Styx will be fully compatible with upcoming safety norms.55% of AHSS will be used for the creation of platform of Styx.Standard safety kit will include ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, speed sensing auto door locks, high speed alert system, Front seat belts with pretensioners, Engine Immobilizer and ISOFIX child mounts.All 4 disc brakes may not be provided in Hyundai Styx.6 airbags, reverse parking camera, lane change indicator, front fog lamps, rear defogger will help Styx stand equally with XUV300 in terms of safety features on offer.Along with this, it will offer 3 years of warranty and 3 years of Road Side Assistance as well.
Hyundai Styx – ENGINES
Engine options of Styx includes a 1.2-litre unit which also forms duties on Hyundai Elite i20, i20 Active, Grand i10, Xcent.With 5-speed manual and automatic transmission, the total power and torque generated is 83 BHP and 115 NM respectively.It will be replaced by new 1.5L petrol unit on a later stage.Diesel engine powering the Styx is a 1.5-litre unit with figures of 113 BHP and 250 NM of torque.Hyundai is also preparing for an electric variant of Hyundai Styx which will be brought up in the later half of 2020.
Hyundai Styx – PETROL
Hyundai Styx is expected to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine at the time of launch.It will be powered by a 5-speed manual and automatic gearbox.This unit makes 83 BHP of power and 115 NM.Mileage of 1.2-litre Styx will be around 19 kmpl but in real life it will easily churn out mileage of 11-12 kmpl.
Hyundai Styx – DIESEL
Hyundai’s Brezza and Nexon rival will get a 1.5-litre BS-VI compliant Diesel engine which will also be coming to 2019 Hyundai Verna and Creta as well.However the power will be reduced from 126 BHP of 1.6-litre Diesel engine to 113 BHP to meet the upcoming safety norms.Not only this, torque of this turbocharged engine has been dropped from 260 NM to 250 NM.Diesel Styx will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and automatic unit.Fuel economy will be 21 kmpl for diesel manual and 19 kmpl for diesel auto.
Hyundai Styx – AUTOMATIC
Hyundai will be providing automatic transmission in it’s Styx range.Styx will derive automatic transmission from its Santro and is expected to be seen in Styx petrol only at the time of launch.Diesel Styx will receive automatic gearbox some time after the launch.Mileage of automatic will be slightly less than manual but will be more convenient to drive around.
Hyundai Styx – MILEAGE
Hyundai Styx petrol manual will be generating mileage of around 19 kmpl while the automatic petrol will be around 17.8 kmpl.The Diesel engine will be in par in terms of fuel efficiency hen compared to it’s rivals.Manual diesel is expected to get ARAI certified fuel economy of 21 kmpl but in real life it will be around 15-16 kmpl.
Hyundai Styx – VARIANTS
Hyundai Styx variants lineup will be similar to Creta, Verna and Xcent and not to Elite i20, Santro and Grand i10 which begins from Era and goes upto top-spec Asta trim.It is expected to be offered in a total of 4 models – Base E, S, SX and SX+.All these trims would be Available in both the fuel options.While at the time of launch, petrol automatic is expected to remain limited to mid-trims only that includes S AMT and SX AMT.

Hyundai Styx will counter segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V.It will also take on upcoming Mahindra XUV 300, Toyota badged Brezza, and upcoming Kia and MG cars in this segment.Along with this, another Mahindra vehicle, TUV300 will be a rival for Styx.It will also feel the competition with the basic trims of SUVs including Hyundai Creta, New Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and Kia SP-Concept.
