A unique modification has been made to the new Maruti Swift in India, where the owner has installed an aftermarket ADAS System. The Maruti Swift recently got 4th generation update with best-in-class fuel efficiency and plus its wide appeal to Indian audience. Given its popularity, many owners often accessories vehicles through aftermarket shops, and this instance is a notable example of such customisation.
The aftermarket ADAS in question is provided by Uno Minda, this ADAS is integrated into the Swift using a dashcam with ADAS features. The installation is straightforward: the camera is attached to the car’s windshield, connected via a USB cable to the infotainment system, and synced with an app on the vehicle’s Android OS. After a brief calibration process while driving, the system is ready to use. When tested on the road, the ADAS effectively recognises lanes and monitors the distance between the Swift and other vehicles. The camera offers a wide 170-degree field of view, and the system provides audio warnings if the car is too close to another vehicle or if it drifts out of its lane. These features are designed to enhance driving safety and could help prevent accidents by alerting the driver to potential hazards.
Aftermarket ADAS systems can pose safety risks due to several factors:
While the installation of aftermarket ADAS in the Maruti Swift reflects a desire to enhance safety features, it also brings certain risks. Issues like improper calibration, compatibility challenges, and limited functionality can compromise the effectiveness of these systems. Additionally, the potential for distracted driving and the lack of rigorous testing compared to OEM systems raise concerns about reliability and safety. As such, while aftermarket ADAS can offer some benefits, they may not provide the same level of security and integration as factory-installed systems, making it crucial for consumers to carefully consider these factors before opting for such modifications.
