Can the Maruti Brezza keep-up with the Kia Sonet? Is it any better than the Sonet and does it have better features than the Sonet? Let’s compare the two to find that out!
The Sonet has the blacked-out tiger grille with cube look fog lamps at the bottom sides and dual-tone treatment for the front bumpers and creases on the bonnet for that aggressive sporty look. The headlamp has an LED DRLs in it which is also used for the indicators as well. The side of the Sonet looks great with the 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles, black non-functional roof rails, chrome line at the bottom frame of windows, and thin wheel arches. The rear has LED taillamps which are joined by the reflector strip to make it look like one unit, small roof spoiler, and shark fin antenna.
At the front as you can see, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, we can see the hard plastic front of the grille joining the LED headlamps and inside the headlamps unit is the L-shaped LED DRLs, and the bumpers both front and rear are finished in faux skid silver plate. Moving to the side, the whole SUV has body cladding with 16-inch alloy wheels and functional roof rails. At the rear, it has horizontally Y-shaped LED taillamps with rear wiper on the rear windscreen, a roof spoiler at the top, and shark fin antenna on top.
The Kia Sonet dashboard has the same layout as the Seltos as it has 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed above the AC vents and the AC vents at the sides are vertically positioned. The Sonet does not have dual-tone dashboard option unfortunately. It has multi-function three-spoke steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, the pedals finished in metallic silver, and has a single-pane sunroof. It has two USB ports at the front and two at the rear, and it has buttons for the ventilated seats for the driver and the passenger seats. At the rear, the seats have 60:40 split with recline option as well. The Sonet also has ambient lighting with 64 colors on offer and it has 7-speaker Bose sound system.
The Maruti Brezza has the same layout as the other Maruti models as it’s got 9-inch infotainment system on top of the AC vents and the rectangle-shaped AC vents at the side. It’s got dual-tone dashboard option as well. The Brezza has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with Analog instrument cluster and a TFT display between the Analog dials, and single-pane sunroof. Moving to the rear, it has the seats split in 60:40 ratio, ambient lighting on the doors and at the footrest in the front, and has 6-speakers Arkamys sound system.
So, from the outside and inside, the Kia Sonet looks sportier from the outside as it’s a mini-Seltos with premium looks and spacious and premium from the inside as well. The Brezza is not bad but it appears bigger than the Sonet but one might prefer the Sonet over the Brezza as the Sonet has better fit and finish inside.

When it comes to dimensions, both the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Brezza has the same length of 3995mm, same width of 1790mm, and same wheelbase of 2500mm. The Sonet has a height of 1642mm while the Brezza has a height of 1685mm with difference of 43mm. The Sonet has a ground clearance of 205mm, boot space of 392 litres and fuel tank of 45 litres. The Brezza has a ground clearance of 198mm that is lower by 7mm, boot space of 328 litres that is smaller by 64 litres, and fuel tank of 48 litres petrol that is bigger by 3 litres and 48 litres CNG tank. The Sonet has a kerb weight of 1,233 kg that is 23 kg heavier than the 1,210 kg Maruti Brezza kerb weight.
So, in dimensions, both the cars are similar in dimensions which means that the comfort and space for storage would be around the same.

In Engine Options, the Sonet and the Brezza has petrol engine on offer. The Sonet has the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 81.86 bhp and 115 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed Manual Gearbox with 18.4 kmpl fuel efficiency. The Brezza has a bigger and powerful petrol engine that the Sonet. It has the 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid petrol that puts out 101.62 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed Manual Gearbox with 19.89 kmpl fuel efficiency and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 19.8 kmpl.

Other than the petrol engine, the Sonet has one more powertrain and that is the diesel engine. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 113.48 bhp and 250 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed iMT and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with 19 kmpl fuel efficiency. The Brezza has no diesel engine on offer.

Kia has one more powertrain for the Sonet and that is the turbo petrol engine. The Sonet has the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 118.36 bhp and 172 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT Gearbox with 18.3 kmpl fuel efficiency and 18.2 kmpl fuel efficiency in iMT Gearbox.

The Brezza doesn’t have diesel or turbo engines on offer, but it has CNG option. The CNG is powered by the same 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid which in CNG puts out 86.63 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission with efficiency of 25.51 km/kg.

When it comes to features, Brezza misses out on Analog instrument cluster, bigger infotainment system, leather seat upholstery, Air Purifier, Ventilated Seats, and 7-speaker sound system. This makes Kia Sonet preferrable over the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

In Safety Features, the Brezza misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System, and Traction Control. The Sonet misses out on 360-degree camera instead of the reverse parking camera. So, when it comes to safety, the Sonet is better than the Brezza as 360-degree camera is not as important as a reverse parking camera with other safety features.

The Kia Sonet starts at Rs. 7.79 lakh for the entry-level ‘1.2 HTE’ variant and goes up to Rs. 14.89 lakh for the ‘X-Line Automatic’ Diesel variant which is a top variant, and the Maruti Brezza starts at the Brezza starts at Rs. 9.31 lakh for the base LXI variant and goes up to Rs. 16.31 lakh for the ZXI Plus DT Automatic Variant. The price difference between the two models is Rs. 1.52 lakh for the entry-level variant and Rs. 1.42 lakh for the top variant.
As for the warranty, Kia is offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the Sonet and can be extended up to 5 years/1,00,000 km where as the Brezza has a warranty period of 2 years/40,000 km that can be extended to 5 years/1,00,000 km.
In the end, the decision to buy which Compact SUV depends totally on you, however, it is recommended to go for the Kia Sonet over the Brezza as the dimensions of both the SUV are similar, and therefore will have the same amount of comfort on offer. However, when it comes to the styling and designing of an SUV, the Sonet both from the outside and inside looks spacious and premium than the Brezza plus it has extra features and safety on offer. The 2nd-gen Brezza is good as the exteriors looks are good and from the inside, all Maruti models has the same dashboard layout and because of that it sometimes takes away the premium feeling because of similar it looks from the inside. Moreover, if you’re tight on budget, the Kia Sonet is the right choice as it’s more on offer than the Brezza, and if you can afford the Brezza, then go for it, as it depends on your requirement and priorities, and has great mileage as well.
