Kia is all to debut its latest compact SUV, the Syros, in India, marking its 7th vehicle launch following models like the Sonet, Carens, Seltos, Carnival, EV6, and EV9. Scheduled for a global debut on December 19, the Syros aims to carve a niche in the highly competitive segment, positioning itself between the Sonet and Seltos.
The Syros showcases a bold, boxy design that echoes elements from Kia’s broader lineup, such as the tiger-nose grille and vertically stacked LED headlights with striking LED DRLs. Its silhouette is designed for a strong road presence, complemented by sleek LED tail lamps. A distinctive feature includes a window line with a sharp kink towards the rear, reminiscent of the Skoda Yeti, enhancing both style and practicality.
Inside, the Syros promises a premium feel with a panoramic sunroof, which not only adds to the cabin’s luxury but also elevates the overall driving experience. The interior is expected to feature a dual-tone theme, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats. The cabin space is maximized with an upright design, offering more room for passengers and cargo, making it a practical choice for urban and family use.
Kia has not skimped on technology, introducing ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision avoidance systems, all hinted at by cameras mounted on the windshield. Safety is further bolstered with six airbags, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and hill-hold assist expected to be standard in higher variants. Other features include front ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, powered driver seat, dual 10.25-inch Displays – Infotainment and Digital Driver’s Display, and so on
Initially, the Syros will launch with an internal combustion engine, specifically a 1.0-liter turbo petrol, available with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT for varied driving preferences. An electric version is slated for the latter half of 2025, boasting a range of approximately 350-400 km, aiming to attract eco-conscious buyers and compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
The Syros is strategically positioned to challenge existing compact SUVs like the Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. With its blend of affordability, premium features, and advanced technology, the Syros is set to appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers, from first-time SUV owners to those upgrading from smaller vehicles. This launch will likely take place after the Bharat Mobility Expo in Jan 2025 where people to get to see the SUV
