Mahindra Scorpio-N receives poor ratings in Australia!

Mahindra Scorpio-N had received a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP for safety but when it got tested at the Australian NCAP, it scored 0-stars!

Mahindra Scorpio-N scores 0-Stars – Know the reason why!

Mahindra Scorpio-N had bagged 5-star rating for it’s safety on offer under the ‘Safer cars for India’ initiative. Mahindra will be launching the Scorpio-N in Australia on April 20th, and before the launch, it was tested by the Australian NCAP. On the day of testing, the Scorpio-N was awarded 0-stars for safety. This is because, as per the Federal Government local law, the cars won’t be allowed to be sold in Australia unless it has Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) has it’s safety feature after March 1st, 2023.

Mahindra had introduced the Scorpio-N in Australia in November 2022 but haven’t done any sales yet. So, Mahindra will be eventually be able to sell the Scorpio-N in Australia, but will have 0-star rating from ANCAP due to lack of safety feature.

What is that law by Federal Government in Australia?

The Federal Government had introduced a local law where starting from March 1st, 2023, no new cars will be sold if it doesn’t have Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) post March 2025. Since this law wasn’t imposed last year from November, Mahindra had introduced the Scorpio-N to the Australians at that time and since this law isn’t valid for them, they’re allowed to sell the Scorpio-N in Australia but will also have the 0-star rating.

However, its worth noting that the Scorpio-N has no ADAS features such as Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, or Autonomous Emergency Braking. However, this doesn’t implies that the Scorpio-N isn’t safe, it had scored 5-star rating at the Global NCAP but in Australia it’ll have 0-star simply because of the Australian laws and therefore it doesn’t implies for the Indian customers as it’s still a 5-star rated SUV for India under ‘Safest Cars for India’ initiative.

The XUV700 will also be launching in Australia later this year and it does have ADAS features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Warning, and also the Autonomous Emergency Braking. The XUV700 will have a better chance at getting better scores at ANCAP than the Scorpio-N as it qualifies the requirement the Federal Government is looking for.
