Mahindra Thar was first launched in the year 2010, it was based on the Mahindra MM540 platform. It didn’t offer many features other than the 4×4 capability. Years passed by and it needed an update so now in 2020 the 2nd generation of Thar did get a great response, the waiting period for the new Mahindra Thar was more than a year. But Mahindra somehow managed to decrease the waiting period. The reason behind this long waiting period was the chip shortage, the prices of the car also increased and a few features were deleted. After all this, the car is still being sold in great numbers. Now, the price of the Mahindra Thar has been increased by 1Lakh, the base variant is ₹55,000 costlier than before and a few variants have crossed ₹1Lac. In detail, the price of four-wheel drive variants has increased by ₹28,200, and the AT-petrol variant price also raised by ₹28,200. Furthermore, the base variant AX(O) MT-diesel hard-top has received a price hike of ₹55,000, and the highest price hike has been received by the LX-Diesel Hard-top RWD variant of ₹1.05L
Mahindra Thar specifications
Mahindra Thar currently is offered in two different engine options for the two different drive terrains, the RWD variant gets a 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine that produces 115ps of maximum power and as a petrol engine, it gets a turbocharged 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150ps of maximum power. Moreover, the 4X4 variant gets a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150ps of power and it also gets a diesel engine that is a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine that produces 130ps of maximum power. All these engine cars are available in both MT and AT gearboxes.
Suzuki Jimny Engine specifications
The Mahindra Thar directly competes with the Suzuki Jimny, talking about the engine specs of the Suzuki Jimny, so it is expected that the car will get a 1.5L petrol engine that will produce 104ps of power. There won’t be a diesel engine as there is no diesel engine option available with any Suzuki car. The petrol engine will be mated with a 5-speed MT as well as a 4-speed AT gearbox.
