The Mahindra Thar Roxx is poised to make a notable impact in the compact SUV market, positioned just below the Scorpio N in Mahindra’s lineup. At 4.3 meters in length, the Thar Roxx is designed for adventure seekers and off-road enthusiasts. It’s built on a lighter version of the 3G platform, introduced with the Scorpio N, shedding 40 kg to boost both performance and efficiency. The vehicle’s body shell and metal hard top are made from high-tensile steel, ensuring robust durability.
Under the hood, the Thar Roxx shares its powertrains with the Scorpio N and XUV 700. The 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine generates 158 BHP and 330 NM of torque in base variants, with higher trims offering 172 BHP and 380 NM. A 2.2 L mHawk 2nd Gen diesel engine is also available, delivering 147.5 BHP and 350 NM of torque on lower variants, and up to 169 BHP and 370 NM on the top trims. Both engine comes with the choice of a 6-speed manual (MT) or automatic (AT) transmissions.
The Thar Roxx will come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) for the lower trims, while mid and higher variants come equipped with 4-Wheel-Drive (4WD) or 4×4 Drive System along with an electronic locking differential. Its suspension system features an independent front setup with a double wishbone and a multilink rear with Watts linkage, ensuring a smooth ride. The vehicle also incorporates Frequency Dependent Damping technology and Mahindra’s 4Xplor off-road system to enhance ride quality. Additionally, the Roxx comes with multiple terrain modes — Snow, Sand, and Mud—and the Crawl Smart Assist feature, which allows drivers to select speeds between 2.5 km/h and 30 km/h on challenging terrains.
The Thar Roxx retains the traditional 2H, 4H, and 4L modes for off-road driving, controlled by levers rather than a shift-on-the-fly system. A standout feature is the Intelli Turn Assist, which locks the rear inner wheel based on the steering direction for a tighter turning radius. This feature activates at speeds below 15 kmph and lasts for up to 15 seconds. The Thar Roxx also boasts impressive off-road capabilities, with a 41.3-degree approach angle, a 23.6-degree ramp-over angle, and a 36.1-degree departure angle, making it a formidable choice for serious off-road enthusiasts.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is more than just a compact SUV; it’s a versatile vehicle that combines power, performance, and advanced off-road capabilities. Whether you’re navigating city streets or tackling challenging terrains, the Thar Roxx is built to deliver a thrilling driving experience. Its blend of rugged design, innovative features, and robust engine options make it a standout in its segment, appealing to adventure seekers and everyday drivers alike.
