Mahindra XUV400 vs MG ZS EV – Exterior and Interior
The Mahindra XUV400 as you can see, the electric SUV has X pattern on the closed grille. The whole SUV is highlighted with copper colors on the logo, door claddings, and roof. It has LED headlamps with LED DRLs integrated at the top inside the headlamps and no fog lamps as you can see, the bumpers at the front and rear are finished in faux silver skid plate, and the bonnet has cuts to give a little meaner look. Moving to the side, it has thin wheel arches with 16-inch alloy wheels and roof rails that appears to be functional. It has LED taillamps with halogen indicators and a small spoiler, and rear wiper on the rear windscreen. As you have noticed or you already know, the XUV400 looks very much the same as the XUV300.
The ZS EV has closed grille with the tri-arrow patterns around the MG logo. Earlier, the charging port was integrated with the MG logo, however, the charging port has been moved to the side. The bumpers both front and the rear has been revised. The LED DRLs are integrated with the LED headlamp which are sharp and sleek. The side has creases with alloy wheels and a request sensor for the passenger door as well. The rear LED Taillamps has the same look from the outside as the LED headlamps except the taillamps has mini-LEDs that form a design inside the taillamps.
From the inside, the XUV400 has the same dashboard layout as the XUV300. It has 7-inch infotainment system placed between the AC vents and the AC vents at the sides positioned horizontally. It t has the option for the dual-tone dashboard. The XUV400 has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with analog instrument cluster and TFT display between the analog dials, and a single-pane sunroof. It has a rotary dial to control the HVAC function of the car. It has two USB ports at the front and no USB ports at the rear. The rear seats are split in 60:40 ratio. It has the 6-speaker sound system as well.
As for the MG ZS EV, it has 10.1-inch infotainment system placed below the AC vents and has round AC vents at the sides. It has the dual-tone dashboard option as well. The ZS EV has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with digital instrument cluster and two analog dials. It has rotary dial to control the drive mode of the SUV, and before the dial, it has buttons for electric parking brake and for the auto hold function. It has metal finish on the buttons below the infotainment system for automatic climate control. It has two USB ports at the front and two at the rear with a panoramic sunroof. The rear seats are split in 60:40 ratio and has 6-speaker sound system.

When it comes to dimensions, the XUV400 has a length of 4200mm, width of 1821mm, and height of 1634mm. The MG ZS EV measures 4323mm which is longer by 123mm, width of 1809mm which is less wide by 12mm, and has a height of 1649mm which is shorter by 15mm. The XUV400 has a wheelbase of 2400mm, ground clearance of 200mm, boot space of 378 litres, and kerb weight of 1,578 kg. The ZS EV has a wheelbase of 2585mm which is 185mm longer, has ground clearance of 192mm which is less by 8mm, boot space of 470 litres which is bigger by 92 litres and kerb weight of 1,547 kg that is lighter by 31 kg.
So, clearly, the ZS EV is better in some points than the XUV400.

However, we should start with the XUV400, the first battery pack is the 34.5 kWh that puts out 147.51 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. It has a single motor that drives the front wheels and offers range of 375 km. It can charge from 0 – 100% in 50 Minutes on a D.C Charger, and can go from 0 – 100 kmph in just 8.3 seconds at a top speed of 160 kmph.
The second battery pack is the 39.4 kWh that produces the same power and torque, but has a range of 456 km. It has the same charging, same acceleration, and same top speed. The MG ZS EV on the other hand, has a battery pack of 50.3 kWh which produces 174.33 bhp and 280 Nm of torque and gives a range of 461 km. It can charge from 0 – 80% in 8.5 hrs to 9 hrs on a A.C charger while the same can be done on a D.C Charger in just 60 minutes. It can go from 0 – 100 kmph in just 8.55 seconds which is 0.25 seconds slower than the XUV400.

When it comes to features especially in the electric vehicles, you would really expect it to be feature-loaded since-you’re paying Rs. 20+ lakhs and as you can see in the table, the XUV400 misses out on rear AC vents, ambient lighting, cooled glovebox, auto-dimming IRVM, and ventilated seats. It also doesn’t get digital instrument cluster, bigger infotainment system like the ZS EV, and has small alloy wheels compare to ZS EV. So, when it comes to features, the MG ZS EV is clearly a lot better than the Mahindra XUV400.

Even when it comes to safety features, the XUV400 misses out on a lot of features such as Cruise control, traction control, ADAS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Assist, and ISOFIX anchorages. It also doesn’t get 360-degree camera but instead has reverse-parking camera. So, clearly, the ZS EV is much better in safety than the XUV400.

The Mahindra XUV400 starts at Rs. 15.99 lakh for the entry-level ‘EC’ variant and goes up to Rs. 18.99 lakh for the top ‘EL Fast-Charging’ variant. In the end, the decision to buy which electric vehicle depends totally on you, however, we would recommend you the MG ZS EV, as it’s longer, little more comfortable than the XUV400, feature-loaded, and has more safety on offer than the XUV400. Even though the ZS EV is on the expensive side the XUV400, the XUV400 has the same design and interior layout to their XUV300 and it feels old, and misses out on a lot of features. Moreover, if you’re tight on budget, and are looking for an electric SUV with decent features, then the XUV400 is the right choice for you.
